The Writing Project is an incredibly powerful and engaging professional development program for teachers. A 35-year study found that the Writing Project's summer institutes and year-long programs effectively support teacher learning through peer teaching, discussions of research and literature, and opportunities for teachers to write and share their own work. While other initiatives have emerged, the Writing Project has maintained its successful core elements. It provides a model for locally and nationally organized, teacher-led professional development and leadership that is foundational for successful educational reform.

The Learning Commons at UMass Amherst underwent extensive renovations over winter break, expanding the space by 5,000 square feet and adding more study rooms and computers. Renovations to improve HVAC in Du Bois Library will take two years and expand the Learning Commons.

Discover was created as a pilot site for the National Library of New Zealand's digital collection to ensure interoperability and access through the use of standards. It contains 2,500 multimedia items from the Alexander Turnbull Library's collections. Metadata was created using Dublin Core and other standards and mapped from existing library catalogs to support resource discovery, description, and preservation. The metadata is expressed in XML and RDF to enable delivery in different syntaxes depending on requirements and is managed through the NLNZ Digital Resource application.
