- 5. Personal Statement My interest in Medicine began at a young age, but as my passion for science and empathy for people developed, it became clear that this really is the career for me. I am sure the skills and determination that have brought me success in the past would stand me in good stead for the rigours of medical work, and I am eager to apply myself to the challenge. I am aware that a good doctor also needs to have the right personal qualities. During training experience in many hospitals in Yemen and inside UAE, I learnt the need for leadership and teamwork, particularly in situations requiring the application of multiple disciplines to a single clinical problem and gained a lot of experience working with people from different backgrounds and different specialities. .I have cultivated these qualities through many years of training. I also realise that communicating positively with patients is a vital part of a doctor’s role. I have therefore developed my communication skills, Basic clinical skills, Professional, and Personal Attitudes. I believe medicine and puzzles are in the same vein. After participating in health fairs, training at a clinic, and observing physicians, I understand that pinpointing the exact needs of a patient is difficult at times. In a way, disease itself can be a puzzle, and doctors sometimes detect it only one piece at a time. Signs and symptoms act as clues that whittle down the possibilities until only a few remain. Then all that is left is to fill in the word and complete the puzzle.
