Animals are used both in times of peace and war, often working alongside human handlers and trainers. Camels in particular played an important role in exploring and transporting goods across inland Australia from the 1860s to 1930s, with camel trains of 20 to 80 animals transporting goods along routes like the Wanaaring Road in northwest New South Wales.
