- Selects appropriate notations and conventions to communicate mathematical
ideas and solutions. MA5.2-1WM
- Constructs arguments to prove and justify results. MA5.2-3WM
- Investigates relationships between two statistical variables, including their
relationship over time. MA5.2-16SP

Group 2: Joshua Woodland, Mark Hamilton, Geoffrey Lee, Matt Lovegrove & Wesley Lummis
Gapminder
? Students will use Gapminder, and look at real life
  statistic variables until they find a noticeable
  relationship between two variables. Eg. Income per
  person and life expectancy.
Discussion
? Once students have found a relationship between
  two statistic variables, they will get into groups of 4,
  where they will have time to come up with ideas for
  why the relationships they noticed may occur.
  Students should then use the internet to investigate
  possible reasons for their relationship.
Smart Notebook
? Once research has been completed, students should
  use smart notebook to create three slides per
  relationship, the first should contain a screen capture
  of the relationship they have been researching, the
  second the possible reasons the group thought might
  be the reason for this and the third an argument
  constructed to justify possible reasons this
  relationship may have occurred. Students will use
  self regulation to ensure they will have finished their
  slides at the same time as the other members of
  their group.
Discussion
? Once students have created their three slides they
  must discuss their findings with the other members of
  their group until it is agreed which relationship was the
  most noticeable and easily explained. They should then
  add in any additional information or ideas they have
  found onto those slides.
Report
? Finally each group should report their findings on
  this relationship to the class, ensuring they use their
  smart notebook slides to show the relationship they
  chose, what they thought might be the reason this
  relationship occurred and finally what their research
  showed the relationship may be caused by.
