• #3: The number of homeless people in Hawaii has increased by more than 60 percent since 2000. U.S Census data shows that Hawaii’s increase in poverty is among the highest in the USA. At least 11.5% of Hawaii’s population is living in poverty. Even though Hawaii has a warm climate year-round and there could be worse places to be homeless, robbery, assault, rape, and other crimes still exist and are a threat to homeless people.
• #5: This act limits the number of years families on federal welfare can collect benefits to just 5 years. In many cases, it is literally impossible for the family to do anything else to come up with money in Hawaii’s limited economy.
• #6: Housing costs are the highest in the U.S. here in Hawaii, and there are precious few low-income homes for those that can’t afford the nearly $1 million three bedroom, two bath home.
• #7: Drug addiction and underfunded mental health programs.
• #9: Sea crate containers used to make affordable housing for the homeless.
• #10: By partnering with leading manufacturers and designers of prefab flat-pack container homes, LiveWell Hawaii is able to provide quality homes at extremely affordable prices. Our panelized structures are versatile and easily adapted for��numerous designs.
• #11: Other Ideas. Using our personal skills to help get our homeless brothers and sisters back on their feet. I believe that there needs to be more of this. We don’t need to be professionals to help the homeless, we just need to do our part.
• #13: One idea that I came up with that is still in the very basic stages of thought is to somehow hold a seminar publicly where the homeless can come and be helped by professional volunteers to help them realize their skills and where they can honestly go where they would have a high chance of getting a job.
