How Did You Use Media
Technologies In The Construction
And Research, Planning And
Evaluation Stages?
Research
Microsoft Word
I used Microsoft word to easily collate and annotate my film
research, and create graphs for my audience research.
PowerPoint and 際際滷share
I also used PowerPoint to make presentations for my
ancillary research, as I found this easier to compare
images. I have also used this method here for my
evaluation, as it is quick to create and easily shared on
際際滷share.
Realtimeboard.com
I used this website to create a mood
board, as it allowed me to easily
organize text, images and videos all in a
single, easy to navigate workspace. One
issue with this medium was that when I
first started using the website, the
boards could only be shared via email
for read-only. I would have overcome
this by providing log in details onto my
blog, but I sent the company a tweet
asking about this feature, and they
reassured me that they will deliver in
time, which they did. I also used this
online tool for my evaluation, to make
links between my video and my images
all in one place.
YouTube & Vimeo
I used both YouTube and Vimeo to find short films and
inspiration for my plot. I also used YouTube to view
other A Level Short Films, to identify some of the
problems other people had and limit the chance of
these occurring in my media.
Planning
Facebook Messenger
I used Facebooks messaging app to organize my actors, as
everyone already had an existing Facebook account, and this
allowed me to easily add and remove people from the chat as
casting changed and message everyone at the same time, to
organize availability for when to shoot.
WordPress
I chose WordPress to present my blog, as I have previous
experience with it, and it has many useful features that are
not available on a platform such as Tumblr, like the ability to
change the order of the posts.
Construction
Hardware
 Nikon D3100  This was my own personal camera. I used it as it was higher
quality than those belonging to the school and I could use it when I wanted
and knew how to operate it already.
 Macs  I used max computers to edit my film as Final Cut Pro X is only
available on this platform, and it is what is available at school.
 Audio Technica microphone  This caused a lot of issues, in conjunction with
my camera as the Nikon D3100, despite having 1080p video filming, has no
jack for an external mic and we struggled to get the microphone to register
with a mobile device, despite using an adapter cable. Therefore this
microphone was only used for the voiceover.
 Tripod  I used a tripod to achieve stable shots, both static and moving, as
holding the tripod instead of the camera when filming the tracking shots
reduced the amount of shudder, and made the footage smoother.
 SD card & two memory sticks  This was where I saved all my documents,
allowing me to work off any free computer and eliminating any risk of losing
my work due to desktop updates, learning from my mistakes last year.
Software
Final Cut Pro X  I used Final Cut Pro X for my main task,
as despite having previously also used Adobe Premiere
Pro, I found Final Cut Pro X to be much faster at
rendering, and referred the layout of the workspace.
Within this I cut, stabilized, zoomed, colour corrected
and adjusted the speed of my footage to create my
short film.
Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
I used both Adobe InDesign and Illustrator to create
my magazine. I used InDesign for the double page
spread, as it had useful guidelines, showing balance
and spacing between the elements. I had never
used InDesign before but adapted quickly, finding it
easy to use, although it had a limited amount of
shapes, causing me to create the arrow in
Photoshop and paste it into the spread.
I used Illustrator for the image to match the
perspective of the title to the background, after a
failed attempt on Photoshop, due to its incapability
to use vanishing point with a vector rather than an
image resulting in pixelated text. This was my first
time using Illustrator and used Google search results
to help me figure out how to do what I wanted to
do. I also changed the layout of the workspace,
opting to make the toolbar appear more like
Photoshops, so I felt more comfortable with the
controls.
Photoshop
I used Photoshop to create my Poster as it is the easiest
way to edit photos and shapes together, with the ability
to separate layers and drag them into new documents
allowing for me to quickly create multiple edits of the
poster.
Evaluation
Prezi
I made a Prezi for my first evaluation question, as it
allowed me to easily link together various pieces of
information, so that the total effect can be seen, whilst
creating a flowing presentation.
PowToon
I used PowToon for my third evaluation question to
generate an animated video, which I then uploaded as
unlisted to YouTube. I used this resource as it is an
entertaining way of presenting information, with the
addition of music helping to keep the presentation
engaging. The only disadvantage to this was that I was
not able to insert videos unless I made a slideshow
instead, and so I could only
include screenshots as
examples from my film.

Tripod I used a tripod to achieve stable shots, both static and moving, as holding the tripod instead of the camera when filming the tracking shots reduced the amount of shudder, and made the footage smoother. SD card & two memory sticks This was where I saved all my documents, allowing me to work off any free computer and eliminating any risk of losing my work due to desktop updates, learning from my mistakes last year.

Software Final Cut Pro X I used Final Cut Pro X for my main task, as despite having previously also used Adobe Premiere Pro, I found Final Cut Pro X to be much faster at rendering, and referred the layout of the workspace. Within this I cut, stabilized, zoomed, colour corrected and adjusted the speed of my footage to create my short film.
  • 8. Adobe InDesign and Illustrator I used both Adobe InDesign and Illustrator to create my magazine. I used InDesign for the double page spread, as it had useful guidelines, showing balance and spacing between the elements. I had never used InDesign before but adapted quickly, finding it easy to use, although it had a limited amount of shapes, causing me to create the arrow in Photoshop and paste it into the spread. I used Illustrator for the image to match the perspective of the title to the background, after a failed attempt on Photoshop, due to its incapability to use vanishing point with a vector rather than an image resulting in pixelated text. This was my first time using Illustrator and used Google search results to help me figure out how to do what I wanted to do. I also changed the layout of the workspace, opting to make the toolbar appear more like Photoshops, so I felt more comfortable with the controls.
  • 9. Photoshop I used Photoshop to create my Poster as it is the easiest way to edit photos and shapes together, with the ability to separate layers and drag them into new documents allowing for me to quickly create multiple edits of the poster.
  • 10. Evaluation Prezi I made a Prezi for my first evaluation question, as it allowed me to easily link together various pieces of information, so that the total effect can be seen, whilst creating a flowing presentation.
  • 11. PowToon I used PowToon for my third evaluation question to generate an animated video, which I then uploaded as unlisted to YouTube. I used this resource as it is an entertaining way of presenting information, with the addition of music helping to keep the presentation engaging. The only disadvantage to this was that I was not able to insert videos unless I made a slideshow instead, and so I could only include screenshots as examples from my film.
