BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS KICK-BALL FOR A CAUSE
HIGH POINT, N.C., March 14,2016 This spring the High Point University event
practicum class is hosting a kickball game and activities for the Big Brother Big Sisters
organizations Littles at Johnson Street Global Studies. This will be an event designed to allow
the children of Big Brother Big Sisters and the volunteers to strengthen their relationships and
have an exciting way to bond. The event is open to all of the Big and Little pairs at Johnson
Street Global Studies and Dominos pizza will be providing lunch.
Who: The Big and Little pairs of Johnson Street Global Studies.
What: Fun in the Sun: a healthy and active event.
When: Friday April 15, 2016 at 11:30.
Where: Johnson Street Global Studies 1601 Johnson St, High Point, N.C. 27262.
Why: The event practicum class at High Point University decided to pair with the BBBS
organization because they wanted to help the kids in the local community. The kick-ball game
and activities will contribute more time for the children to spend one-on-one time with their Big.
The class believes that it is important to give back to the community and help foster these
valuable connections. The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization is helping the local kids as well
as the volunteers daily.
Big Sister Lauren Mantikas said, Being a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters has been the
most rewarding experience that I have had at High Point. I have had my Little Sister since I
was a freshman. I wouldnt trade the world for what she has taught me. Every week, when I go
spend time with her, she truly makes my days brighter. Having this impact on my life, I know it
has impacted many students at High Point Universitys life in the same way.
##
About BBBS:Big Brothers Big sisters, the nations largest donor and volunteer supported
mentoring network, holds itself accountable for children in its program to achieve measurable
outcomes such as educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, higher aspirations, greater
confidence and better relationships. Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations
and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children (Littles) with
screened volunteer mentors (Bigs) and monitors and supports these one-to-one mentoring
matches throughout their course. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Outcomes Survey
substantiates that its mentoring programs have proven, positive academic, socio-emotional and
behavioral outcomes for youth, areas linked to high school graduation, avoidance of juvenile
delinquency and college or job readiness. This mission has been the cornerstone of the
organizations 110 year history. With 313 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters
serves nearly 20,000 children, their families and 200,000 volunteer mentors. Learn more at:
www.bbbs.org.
About Guilford County Schools: Guilford County Schools (GCS), the third largest school
district in North Carolina, serves nearly 72,000 K-12 students at 127 schools. With
approximately 10,000 employees, GCS works alongside local parents, businesses and colleges to
deliver an education that connects student interests and skills with the careers and economy of
our future here and around the world. Guilford County is also a Say Yes to Education
community, giving eligible GCS graduates the opportunity to apply for last-dollar tuition
scholarships to attend any 2- or 4-year public institution in North Carolina. Combining choices
to meet the individual educational needs for a culturally diverse citizenship and new
opportunities makes our families say, GCS, Yes! For more information, visit the districts
