Korigad fort is located in Lonavala, Pune at an elevation of 2,650 feet. In 1657, Shivaji Maharaj incorporated this fort along with others into his kingdom. In 1818, after prolonged fighting, British forces led by Colonel Prother were finally able to capture the fort by destroying ammunition stores. The fort has ramparts over 1.5 km long and remnants of old buildings. There are temples, including one to the goddess Korai Devi, as well as cannons and cisterns.
