Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Anem a treballar la normativa de la nostra aula.
Es tracta d´arribar a un acord tots junts i elaborar la nostra pròpia normativa de classe, per tal que durant el curs hi hagi una bona convivència i un bon clima de
treball.
1- individualment trieu 10 comportaments que vosaltres considereu que ha de tenir un alumne exemplar.
2- ens posarem per parelles i heu de triar de nou 10 normes de les que teniu entre els dos per fer una nova llista.
3- ara en grups de quatre poseu-vos d´acord en una llista comú.
4- ho treballem tots junts i triem de les que teniu les 10 normes, comportaments adequats per guiar-nos durant aquest curs.
5- una per una, anirem decidint quina serà la reparació a fer per part de l´alumne/a que no compleixi amb elles.

1- repassem els documents que tenim, els llegim bé tots junts i fem preguntes de comprensió dels mateixos i si hi estan d´acord. Què canviarien i
per què. A tots ens ha de semblar bé per poder-ho complir.
2- anem a fer el nostre propi decàleg de bones maneres de l´auxiliar d´hoteleria que ens servirà per aquest curs i la resta de la nostra vida..
l´anirem construint tots junts de forma democràtica i explicant el per què de cada una de les coses...amb un màxim de 10. l´haurem de fer
individualment per escrit i presentar el dimarts següent signat per cada alumne com a prova de que estan conformes amb el dit i a seguir-lo...
també en farem un conjuntament en cartolina que penjarem a la classe amb totes les signatures. (OME Palafrugell – demanar un suro o un
caballet per posar a la pared de la classe). Alguns exemples de preguntes obertes per començar el debat poden ser...
heu anat a prendre alguna cosa a algun bar o restaurant?
us heu sentit ben atesos? què us ha fet sentir ben atesos?
us han atès en la vostra llengua?
us han portat el que heu demanat?
han demanat perdó si s´han equivocat o entès malament?
han servit tot allò que heu demanat tot i fent més d´un viatge?
han vingut a la taula a demanar-vos comanda?
han estat pendents de vosaltres en tot moment que no us faltés res?
Ara que entrem al gremi, és bo que ens fixem en tots aquests detalls que fan que el client es senti bé.
Exemple de possible DECÀLEG
(cada curs serà diferent segons els alumnes...amb els mínims per part de la tutora que els guia)
1- bona postura corporal i disposició a que aquella persona surti contenta i servida
2- bona imatge perquè representem el negoci: planxats i nets.
3- si us plau i gràcies. No diem de res. Diem gràcies a vostè i fins aviat.
4- el client sempre té la raó.
5- hem de ser transparents, servir tan ràpid com puguem i tota l´estona mirant al client.MAI D´ESQUENA.
6- encara que no sigui el nostre rang, atenem la demanda i li passem al nostre company si podem, si no, nosaltres ens encarreguem d´avisar
al company que hi vagi quan pugui dient-li al client.
7- cara neta de piercings i poca colònia o perfum..olor a nets.
8- parlem en l´idioma del client. Fem l´intent perquè és la nostra feina.
9- encara que el client s´equivoca, no és útil dir-li perquè no ho acceptarà. Diem perdó i rectifiquem la comanda o el que sigui..
10- diem HOLA i ADEUSIAU a tothom que entra i surt del nostre restaurant (encara que ells no contestin) perquè som educats.
