The document proposes a new theoretical framework for analyzing framing in contemporary media networks. It suggests synthesizing framing theory with assemblage theory to provide a more dynamic, materialist approach. Framing would be viewed as "frames-as-assemblages" operating on axes of territorialization/deterritorialization and material/expressive. This would augment existing notions of framing by accounting for non-linear emergence and exterior relations between assemblage parts. Frames-as-assemblages could be analyzed by inductively examining discursive flows and infrastructures through discourse analysis and observation. The goal is to better understand mediated power and identify longer-term tendencies shaping the hybrid media environment.
