Fungi play important ecological roles as decomposers and in symbiotic relationships. They have eukaryotic cells with chitin cell walls and reproduce sexually through spores or asexually through budding. The three main phyla of fungi are Zygomycota, which conjugate, Ascomycota, which form spores in sacs, and Basidiomycota, which form spores on clubs. Fungi range from single-celled yeasts to large mushrooms and lichens, which are symbiotic partnerships of fungi and algae.
