- 2. Sleeping Frat Guy, 2013 Plaster, ceramic and leather string As I entered a room with large white walls tiled with artwork my attention was brought to this large plaster bust. Titled Sleeping Frat Guy the sculpture clearly depicts someone who is devoid of rest dosing off. I found this sculpture quite humorous not only because of its dramatic size but because of the position of the head in a painful resting pose.

Nicole Eisenman, Break Up, 2011 Oil and mixed media on panel Collection of Bonnie and Robert Friedman This piece successfully captures the abstract feeling one goes through when experiencing a breakup. What I find interesting about the color choices in this work. The hands and phone appear to be normal or natural compared to the face. The eyes are sad black holes, the nose is a bright irritated looking red, and the rest of the face is an unpleasant green, grey, and brown. Perhaps the color choices are a way of expressing inner emotions externally.

Guy Artist, 2011 Oil and collage on canvas Collection of Martha and John Gabbert The mysterious almost random African-style sculptures could be a reference to an ancient form of art, whereas this piece is a more modern or contemporary. The artist also pays homage to French artists with the classic “artist barrette” atop the guy artist. He is posed in a disgruntled measurement expression which almost every artist does. This plays on a more specific memory for me and many studying artists. This piece reminds us of the pursuit of proper proportion. This unkempt and relatively sarcastic artist reminds artists of how society may think we look.
- 5. Sloppy Bar Room Kiss, 2011 Oil on canvas Collection of Mark J. Cozzi Unfortunately alcohol consumption leads to bad decisions. I’m sure everyone has made some sort of bad decision. This piece invites the viewer into the scene as the unfortunate sloppy bar room kiss viewer.
- 6. Portrait of Celeste Oil on canvas Collection of Mark J. Cozzi In this portrait the viewer can really get a sense of who Celeste is. I think that the background color really adds to the portrait because it emphasizes Celeste’s pasty arms. The arms in the portrait are outlined so that his thin arms are defined. A majority of the detail is in the face that is framed by messy brown hair.
- 7. The Triumph of Poverty, 2009 Oil on canvas Collection of Dr. Thomas J. Huerter There are many elements in this piece that contribute to the theme of poverty. The artist uses multiple metaphors to illustrate their idea of poverty and how it effects the lives of everyday people. From first glance you can tell this painting is about poverty however I don’t believe that this painting depicts triumph of poverty. This painting depicts the journey through poverty. The artist communicate their message through each strategically designed figure.
- 8. Brooklyn Biergarten II, 2008 Oil on canvas Collection of Valeria and Gregorio Napoleone This grand painting keeps the viewer very busy. There are numerous parties and situations throughout this piece. My favorite part is what appears to be the grim reaper located in near the back of the crowd to the right.
- 9. Sunday Night Dinner, 2009 Oil on canvas Collection of Ariene Shechet and Mark Epstien This awkward dinner seems practically disastrous. The theme of infatuation and misery oozes through the paint. Everyone’s attention is taken leaving the depressed looking man in the center of the table alone in a room full of people.
- 10. Burn the Diaries, 2014 Mixed Media Photography Moyra Davey Between photography, writing, and film, Moyra Davey’s art interprets and critiques her own experience as an artist through literary, philosophical, and cultural references, drawing as well on objects, memories, and even dust.
- 11. Easternsports Video still Alex Da Corte and Jayson Musson As you enter a glowing neon pink room you are greeted by the silent hum of neon lights and a room within a room. In that room there are orange metal chairs and oranges strewed about. There are videos being projectes on all four walls. As you begin to watch it you become a part of the work.
