WIUX WINS IBS AWARD
Station nabsBest Liner award at Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference
We are proud to announce that WIUX took home the award for Best Liner at the 2015 Intercollegiate
Broadcasting System conference in New York City. Current Station Manager Sarah Thompson accepted the
award for Best Liner, produced in conjunction with former Music Director Tori Miner.
WIUX sent four members to represent Pure Student Radio in New York: General Manager Carolyn Suna,
Station Manager Sarah Thompson, News Director Chelsea Barras, and Web Content Director Jessica
Yarvin. Barras was nominated for Best News Interview and Yarvin was up for Best Social Media Direc-
tor.
Additionally, Suna and Thompson hosted their own panel on moving a radio station. This summer, WIUX
moved a block west from its old location where it had resided for over 40 years. The two Managers focused
on the difficulties WIUX faced, strategies for an effective move, and building community in a post-move en-
vironment. It was an extraordinary opportunity for the station, particularly as this was WIUXs second year
attending the international conference.
Each year, the IBS Awards aim to recognize outstanding high school and college radio and television sta-
tions across the country. The awards run the gamut from Best Station ID all the way up to Best Overall
Station.
This year, WIUX received nominations in 13 different categories. The awards are as follows:
Best News Interview: Chelsea Barras for Michael Uslan Interview
Best Sports Play-By-Play (Basketball): Indiana vs. Purdue (Sam Rumpza & Kevin Hyland)
Best Liner: Sarah Thompson & Tori Miner
	 Best Station ID: Collin Thomas
Best Station ID: Sarah Thompson & Tori Miner
	 Best Live Music Broadcast: Patchwork
Most Innovative Program: B-Side Tonight with Nick Riveria, Michael McReynolds, & Alec Steinmetz
Best Underwriting Campaign: Bicycle Garage Spot (Xander Harty)
	 Best Website: WIUX.org
Additionally, several of our board members received individual nominations pertaining to their position.
WIUX is honored to have been nominated alongside so many other quality programs. We intend on adding
some hardware to our new station house in the near future.
