1) The earliest form of music video was "illustrated songs" in 1894, which projected images related to song lyrics.
2) In the 1920s-1950s, musical short films called "soundies" and "promotional clips" were popular, featuring artists lip-syncing to recordings.
3) In the 1960s, pre-recorded music was paired with filmed performances and locations, helping to develop the modern music video format.
Music videos began developing in the early 20th century with animated sing-along cartoons and live musical performances filmed for cartoons. In the 1950s and 1960s, promotional music videos became more common. The 1970s saw the beginning of music television channels and the rise of concept music videos. In 1981, MTV launched and ushered in the mainstream success of music videos. Through the 1980s and 1990s, music videos grew in production value and direction became more of an art form. New technology in the 2000s allowed users to share and view music videos online, changing the music industry.

EMI stands for Electric & Musical Industries. It began in 1931 when the Gramophone Company merged with Columbia Graphophone to form EMI. EMI is now one of the world's leading music companies and has represented many successful artists over the years such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Robbie Williams. However, EMI has also struggled financially in recent years, requiring cash injections to avoid bankruptcy.
Music videos originated in the 1950s as promotional films for songs. Early examples included Tony Bennett walking in Hyde Park to "Stranger in Paradise" in 1956. In the 1960s, films like A Hard Day's Night helped establish the format. The Beatles pioneered conceptual videos for songs like "Strawberry Fields Forever" in 1967. MTV launched in 1981 and greatly increased the prominence of music videos, helping artists like Michael Jackson and Madonna achieve success through creative videos that told stories. By the mid-1980s, lavish big budget videos had become a key part of the music industry marketing machine.
Music videos originated from illustrated songs in the late 19th century that paired music with a series of still images. In the early 20th century, musical short films began featuring performers and helped progress the music video format. The 1981 debut of MTV was a major turning point, playing music videos 24/7 and helping to establish many artists' careers through this new medium. As music videos grew in popularity through the 1980s and 1990s, directors began receiving recognition for their unique visions and styles. The rise of YouTube and iTunes in the 2000s further expanded the distribution and consumption of music videos online.

The Social Web describes how people socialize and interact on the Web sharing a variety of interests. It is therefore quite natural in the context of Web 2.0, where the emphasis is on users, that entrepreneurs have created Web 2.0 applications that focus on social interactions and communities. Typical examples of social network sites are websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Ning, Delicious, LinkedIn, Yahoo!, Myspace, Flickr and many others. With the proliferation of such social networking sites has emerged the need for common standards and open source tools. In this tutorial we will see the common architectural concepts and design patterns behind social network sites and the emerging and quite successful OpenSocial standard promoted by Google and its numerous partners. The music video has evolved significantly since its origins in the late 19th century. Starting as a simple accompaniment to promote songs, the music video is now a major commercial and artistic medium. Over time, innovations in film, television and digital technology have transformed the music video into a sophisticated form of entertainment and advertising.

The Beatles helped establish the music video genre with clips filmed for their songs and movies in the 1960s. The development of video recording technology in the 1970s allowed many artists to produce low-cost promotional videos. Today, high-budget music videos are a standard part of the music marketing process.
The Jam was a British punk rock band formed in 1972 that was signed to Polydor Records. Their 1982 music video for "Town Called Malice" followed the standard conventions of 1970s and 1980s music videos, featuring the band playing against a black background. Throughout the video, the lead singer is shown in frequent close-ups. While the song sounds upbeat, the lyrics describe more miserable themes that are reflected in the gloomy black background. The video also briefly displays two signs but does not expand on any narrative.
Oskar Fischinger created the first music videos in the 1920s by animating visuals to synchronize with music. The Soundies of the 1940s were early live-action musical short films played on jukeboxes. Hard Day's Night (1964) popularized music videos by featuring the Beatles, while Bohemian Rhapsody (1975) spurred record companies to produce promotional videos. MTV, founded in 1981, was the first dedicated music video channel and was hugely influential in promoting artists and music videos over the following decades.
Music videos began as short films promoting songs in the 1920s. They grew more popular in the 1950s-60s with artists like The Beatles filming musical segments. Modern music videos now approach the popularity of the songs themselves through digital distribution.

Indie music originated in the 1950s-60s as a rebellion against the domination of major music labels. It was a low-budget, DIY movement that encouraged experimentation. Key early artists included The Velvet Underground and Captain Beefheart. No genre is harder to define, as Indie has incorporated elements of many styles over time. In the 2000s, the popularity of bands like Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand introduced Indie to a new generation of mainstream listeners. However, some argue this commercial success dilutes Indie's rebellious spirit. Dubstep is now seen by some as a new underground genre carrying the torch of innovation and exclusivity once held by Indie.

- The Beatles created some of the earliest music videos in the 1960s to promote their songs on television, before the term "music video" existed.
- In the 1970s, Queen created one of the first true music videos for their song "Bohemian Rhapsody" when they were unable to perform on Top of the Pops.
- MTV launched in 1981 playing music videos 24/7 and helped propel many artists like Madonna and Duran Duran to fame.
- Michael Jackson's groundbreaking "Thriller" video from 1983 with its high production values set a new standard for what a big budget music video could be.
The document discusses how a media product about the indie rock band "The Jungle Doctors" uses and develops conventions of the indie rock genre. It analyzes the music video created, discussing how it features common conventions like a focus on the band's performance, authentic instrumentation, and simple narrative sequences. The document also summarizes how other aspects like the digipak, magazine advertisements, and influences from other indie rock music videos help situate the media product within the genre.
Music videos began in the 1920s but became more widely used starting in the 1950s and 1960s as a way to promote music recordings on television and in movie theaters. In the 1980s, the launch of MTV made music videos hugely popular and influential, allowing artists like Michael Jackson to create short films for their songs. Today, music videos are commonly used to promote songs on digital platforms like YouTube and help launch the careers of new artists.
Independent (indie) music originated as music created by independent record labels and artists, breaking away from major corporate labels. It has grown into a broad genre encompassing various sounds. Key subgenres include indie rock, characterized by bands that brought indie into the mainstream; indie pop, known for being melodic, quirky, and pretty; and indie folk, which merges indie with acoustic folk influences. Technological advances have made it harder to distinguish indie by production quality alone, and the lines between indie and other genres like alternative can blur.
The Jam was a British punk rock band formed in 1972 that was signed to Polydor Records. The video for their song "Town Called Malice" from 1982 followed the conventions of 1970s and 1980s music videos, showing the band playing their instruments with frequent close-ups of the singer. While the lyrics describe struggle and sadness, the visuals have the band performing in a limited manner on a black background, conveying a sense of gloom and apathy. The video also includes signs with political messages but does not expand on any narrative.
Music videos have evolved significantly since the late 19th century. Early music videos in the 1890s were still images projected with live songs, while videos in the 1920s and 1930s featured dancers and singers in short musical films and films incorporating music and song. In the 1960s, the Beatles pioneered the concept of promotional music videos. The launch of MTV in 1981 brought music videos to mass audiences and transformed the industry. Music video budgets and production values increased greatly in subsequent decades, with some major artists spending over $1 million per video by the 1990s. New technologies in the 2000s like YouTube democratized music video sharing but also contributed to their decline on television.
- EMI was formed in 1931 in London as The Electrical and Musical Industries and introduced vinyl records in 1948.
- In the 1960s, EMI had huge success by signing The Beatles and dominating the UK charts that decade. They also acquired Motown Records.
- Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, EMI branched out by signing artists like Pink Floyd, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, and Duran Duran.
- In the 1990s and 2000s, EMI continued acquiring record labels and adapting to digital music formats, signing artists like Radiohead, The Spice Girls, and Coldplay.

8. What makes an indie video successful?
Originality. An indie music video is at its best when its a
chance taking, friend making, low budget thing FUN?
A low budget isnt a necessity for a great indie music video, its
just prevalent, and frequently inevitably to be due to indies
need to express with freedom in both form and subject.
With this indie spirit and these constraints there could be said
to be an independent arts culture, and a less obvious but no less
vivid indie music video visual .

the video.
My video doesnt necessarily have to related to

my audience.
