Dear VET enthusiasts and supports,
Since the kick-off of our one year Industry Mechanic training course atDon Bosco on December 1st our trainers and
trainees have put a lot of work and heart into the training. By now,the trainees have completed their basic training in
metal work which involved theoretical subjects such as Technical Communication & Mathematics, Metallu rgy and
English but also very practical subjects and practical workshop training in areas like Drilling, Fitting and Joining as
well as Testing, Measuring and Comparing.
The most unusual subject was probably the Social Studies class that the VETnet trainees attended every
Friday that encouraged them to think about short and long-term goals, their strengths and weaknesses,
entrepreneurship and their role and rights as an employee within an organization. The feedback we received
for this class was very positive throughout and we have the impression that this class broadened the
trainees horizon and will benefit their long-term commitment and dedication to their work.

"Attaining a higher level of competency and transformation to quality productivity in
all areas for any human being will depend upon the self-esteem and realization ofits
impacton the organization,society, familyand self. This needs to be kindled gently
and with empathy at an early age as at later age it needs longer time and more
efforts but is possible.
Such interventions will lead to the evolving of self-efficacy (one's belief in one's
capabilityto perform a task) that affects task effort, persistence, expressed interest,
selection of goals and orientation towards continual improvement along with the
inner urge for success.
Employee learning orientation and transformational leadership are positively related
to employee creativity, and these relationships can be mediated by employee
creative self-efficacy. This alone will enable a matured, progressive, evolving and
promising society for one and all."
Trainees, Trainers and Examiners after three days of examination.
This week, the trainees had their interim exams which consisted of a theoretical exam paper as well as a practical
assignment. We are happy to see an overall improvement of 11% in the results of the theoretical exam as
compared to the exam results at the beginning of their training. We believe this result indicates that the training
contents as well as the practical assignments prepare and add value to the work of the trainees when they start
working full-time in their respective companies in October. Nevertheless, we also see that in some areas, like
technical drawing and mathematics, there is still room for improvement that we will have to focus on during the
remaining nine months oftraining.The lack of knowledge through the trainees previous education is the main reason
for this gap between desired knowledge and actual test results. Since we have identified this gap early on in the
training we can now focus on these areas in the coming weeks and months especiallyso that the trainees will have a
sound knowledge in all relevant fields of their trade once they complete the Industry Mechanic Training Course.
