Can you apply a YOLO principle to software development more than once and get away with it? What is trunk-based development and why would you want to have SREs on the team? We are developers of Apollo, the media server for OLX, a global classifieds company in high growth economies including Ukraine. Apollo is storing and serving over 1 billion media items to 40+ marketplaces across the world totalling 70 million monthly active users. It needs to not only deal with massive traffic, but also serve images optimised for various devices and internet connections. We are the lords of your files. Angela is passionate about technology and people. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Finance at UNSW, Australia she started her career in the banking world – suits, red tape and Java 1.4 that was back in the day. Since then she has been in search of engineering Mecca; delighting customers by shipping products with scalable solutions in high performance teams. She has scoured the world in her journey, from building and scaling the Digital Platform at Amazon to bringing Expedia systems to the cloud. Pipelining cache can improve performance by reducing cache access time. It breaks the cache access process into multiple stages, allowing subsequent requests to begin the pipeline even if earlier requests are still in progress. For example, a three-stage pipeline would involve: 1) reading the tag and validity bit, 2) determining if there is a hit and starting the data read, and 3) finishing the data read and returning the value to the CPU. Pipelining cache can increase bandwidth but also introduces some complexity from potential branch mispredictions and longer latency between request issue and data use. Overall it aims to optimize the average memory access time.
