The Kannad 406 AP is an automatic portable emergency locator transmitter (ELT) that operates on three frequencies and offers advantages over conventional two-frequency ELTs including global coverage through multiple satellites, precise location pinpointing, and identification of aircraft in distress. It can be installed near the tail of an aircraft and activated automatically in a crash or manually. When removed from its bracket, it functions as a portable survival beacon. Programming is quick and maintenance is limited to monthly self-tests.
