PROFILE
Self-directed, highly motivated individual with four years of laboratory experience in the fields of pharmacology
and neuroscience. Recognized as a creative problem solver who possesses strong written and oral
communication abilities. Demonstrated time management skills and ability to multitask. Key skill areas include:
Presentation preparation/delivery Project supervision Manuscript writing and editing
In vitro electrophysiology Training laboratory staff Data analysis and interpretation
Organizing and managing data Grant writing Experimental design
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Drafted project proposals and submitted grant applications that resulted in the successful attainment of
external financial support for a research project
Designed and presented posters at seven national meetings and presented research at seminars to over
30 Wayne State University faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students
Coached three new research technicians in general laboratory procedures, data analysis and
electrophysiological techniques
Communicated with a laboratory team at the University of Ottawa to evaluate the option of recycling
expensive research materials. Optimized the protocol and implemented the practice in our laboratory,
thereby saving thousands of dollars over the course of approximately two years
Volunteered as a speaker for Brain Awareness Week at a nearby Detroit area high school and middle
school for three years
Created an LED-powered stimulation tool to replace a Xenon-powered lamp by adapting general
instructions and using existing laboratory materials, resulting in a significant reduction in laboratory
expenses
Optimized a biolistic transfection technique for the in vitro delivery of constructs to cultured brain slices
and published a detailed report of the methods to facilitate adoption by the scientific community
Applied optogenetic technologies in a novel way that allowed our laboratory team to overcome previous
methodological limitations and gain unmatched insight into the functional status of serotonin
autoreceptors following chronic antidepressant treatment
Characterized and tested a new optogenetic tool for potential application for the investigation of
receptor-mediated signaling pathways
Chosen by fellow students to serve as student representative on the organizational committee that
redesigned the Introductory Pharmacology course for Biomedical Science students (Masters and PhD)
at Wayne State University
Balanced demands, including those described above, while simultaneously conducting laboratory-
related work, maintaining a 3.96 GPA and fulfilling the requirements for a doctoral degree within four
years
