The Coca Cola story began in 1886 when John Pemberton invented Coca Cola as a remedy for headaches. He struggled to sell it as medicine so in 1888 Asa Candler bought the recipe and began aggressively advertising it. His campaign was successful and Coke became immensely popular in the US. In the 1920s, Robert Woodruff expanded Coke globally through innovative advertising and partnerships. During World War 2, soldiers drank Coke all over the world, further spreading its popularity internationally. Today, Coca Cola remains the top selling soft drink globally due to its iconic brand and constant innovation, though it faces competition from rivals like Pepsi.
