Maxillary median diastema is the presence of a space between the two maxillary incisors. It can be caused by deciduous dentition, abnormal frenal attachments, microdontia, congenitally missing teeth, trauma, abnormal pressure habits, heredity, and racial predisposition. Diagnosis involves measuring tooth sizes and a blanching test. Treatment may include removable appliances, fixed orthodontics, or correcting etiological factors like tongue thrusting. Generalized spacing can be due to small teeth, large arches, macroglossia, or abnormal tongue posture, and is treated through crowns, bridges, or correcting tongue habits.
This document discusses deep bite, including its definition, types, etiology, diagnosis, factors, and treatment. A deep bite is defined as excessive vertical overlap of the upper and lower incisors. It can be true, caused by infraocclusion of posterior teeth, or pseudo, with normal posterior eruption. Causes include genetic, acquired, and muscular factors. Diagnosis involves clinical exams, casts, radiographs, and cephalograms. Treatment aims to correct the underlying occlusion and may involve bite planes, fixed appliances, or intrusion/extrusion of teeth to reduce the overbite. Bite ramps are an effective option to help correct a deep bite over time through posterior development.
The adaptive capacity of the periodontium allows it to accommodate forces from occlusion. When occlusal forces exceed this capacity, trauma from occlusion occurs, potentially leading to periodontal injury. The magnitude, direction, duration and frequency of forces influence the periodontium's response. Signs of trauma from occlusion include pain, mobility, increased periodontal pocketing, bone loss and root resorption. Trauma can alter the progression of periodontal disease from a suprabony to an infrabony pattern and increase the rate of attachment loss. Pathologic tooth migration may result when the balance of factors maintaining normal position is disturbed by periodontal disease.
This document discusses the development of occlusion from birth through the mixed dentition stage. It describes the various stages of dental development including the gum pad stage, primary dentition stage, and mixed dentition stage. Key aspects of occlusion discussed include overbite, overjet, molar relationships, spacing, and how the occlusion changes as permanent teeth erupt to replace primary teeth.
Described here are the clinical features of gingiva, the various stages of gingivitis and the clinical features associated with them. The microscopic features have been described on a different slide presentation.

The document discusses occlusion, malocclusion, and various classification systems. Some key points:
- It defines terms like occlusion, normal occlusion, ideal occlusion, and discusses Andrew's six keys to normal occlusion.
- It also defines intra-arch and inter-arch malocclusions, and different types under each. Skeletal malocclusions affect the underlying jaw structure.
- Several classification systems are described, the most prominent being Angle's classification which is based on the mesiodistal relationship of the first molars. It outlines the three main classes: Class I, Class II, Class III.
- The advantages and drawbacks of Angle's classification are discussed. Modifications like Dewey's

Mandibular fractures have been documented since ancient Greece. Hippocrates described reducing displaced but incomplete mandibular fractures by pressing on the lingual surface with fingers while applying counterpressure externally. The Edwin Smith Treatise also described examining for mandibular fractures by feeling for crepitus under the fingers. Mandibular fractures typically involve the body, angle, condyle, symphysis, or ramus. Physical exam may reveal changes in occlusion, inability to open or close the mouth, anesthesia of the lower lip, or trismus. Diagnosis is made by identifying these physical exam findings along with the patient's mechanism of injury.
This document discusses impacted teeth. It begins by defining an impacted tooth and listing some of the main theories for why teeth become impacted, including lack of space, obstruction of eruption, and hereditary factors. It then classifies impacted teeth based on their location, angle, and depth. The document outlines indications and contraindications for removal of impacted teeth as well as techniques for surgical extraction. Specific procedures for impacted canines and techniques to reduce risk of injury to the inferior alveolar nerve during removal of impacted lower third molars are also described. Potential complications of impacted tooth removal are listed.
This document summarizes the development of dentition and occlusion from birth through adulthood. It describes the major stages of dental development including the gum pad, primary dentition, mixed dentition, and permanent dentition stages. Key events for each stage like tooth eruption times and sequences are provided. The document also discusses features of the primary dentition and changes that occur during the mixed dentition stage, including mesial drifting tendency and leeway space. Clinical implications for different stages like dental age assessment and space management are also summarized.
The document discusses impacted teeth, including definitions, etiology, indications and contraindications for removal, imaging modalities, and localization techniques. It focuses on impacted maxillary and mandibular third molars and cuspids. For maxillary third molars, it describes classification systems based on depth, angulation, and relationship to the maxillary sinus. Factors complicating their removal and common complications are outlined. Etiology and classification of impacted cuspids are also summarized.

The document discusses the interrelationship between periodontal health and dental restorations. A healthy periodontium is necessary for restorations to survive long-term, as the teeth must be maintained. Likewise, restorations must be managed carefully to remain in harmony with surrounding periodontal tissues. The objectives of periodontal prosthesis are outlined, along with definitions of key anatomical structures. Guidelines are provided for examining the patient, including visual inspection, probing, evaluating mobility and reviewing radiographs.

Blind Spots in AI and Formulation Science Knowledge Pyramid (Updated Perspect...Ajaz Hussain
油
This presentation delves into the systemic blind spots within pharmaceutical science and regulatory systems, emphasizing the significance of "inactive ingredients" and their influence on therapeutic equivalence. These blind spots, indicative of normalized systemic failures, go beyond mere chance occurrences and are ingrained deeply enough to compromise decision-making processes and erode trust.
Historical instances like the 1938 FD&C Act and the Generic Drug Scandals underscore how crisis-triggered reforms often fail to address the fundamental issues, perpetuating inefficiencies and hazards.
The narrative advocates a shift from reactive crisis management to proactive, adaptable systems prioritizing continuous enhancement. Key hurdles involve challenging outdated assumptions regarding bioavailability, inadequately funded research ventures, and the impact of vague language in regulatory frameworks.
The rise of large language models (LLMs) presents promising solutions, albeit with accompanying risks necessitating thorough validation and seamless integration.
Tackling these blind spots demands a holistic approach, embracing adaptive learning and a steadfast commitment to self-improvement. By nurturing curiosity, refining regulatory terminology, and judiciously harnessing new technologies, the pharmaceutical sector can progress towards better public health service delivery and ensure the safety, efficacy, and real-world impact of drug products.
