LESSON 2: The Landmasses
on Earth and in the
Philippines.
GROUP 2 PRESENTATION.
GRADE 7.

The Seven Continents of the World.
Continents are the large Landmasses
that makes up Earth's surface. Each
continent is made up of several
countries. There are seven widely
recognized Continents on Earth,
namely Africa, Antarctica, Asia,
Australia, Europe, North America, and
South America. Let us see each of
these continents in detail.

Asia is composed of
about 48 countries,
and according to
world statistics, 60%
of the total
population of Earth
live here. It is
considered as the
largest continent on
Earth, and it is also
the most populated
continent with 4.5
billion people. The
large population of
Asia Makes it
important part of the
world economy.

AFRICA is the second largest
continent in the world. It
consists of 54 countries and is
home to 1.2 billion people.
Africa lies in the center of Earth,
with equator passing through it's
center. The climate of Africa is
largely tropical in nature. The
Northern and southern parts of
Africa have temperate climatic
conditions. Africa is also
considered to be hottest
continent. It is also home to
huge amount of diverse wildlife,
sea life, and primat species. The
largest Desert, the Sahara, is
Located in this continent.

North America is the third largest
continent in the world by land area and
fourth largest continent by population.
North America is home to nearly 580
million people, holding about 7.5% of
the world's population. It includes 23
countries led by United States of
America (USA), the largest economy in
the world. The largest lake in the world,
Lake Superior, is located in this continent
the world largest sugar exporter, Cuba,
known as the "Sugar bowl of the World"
is located in North America. Most of the
land and area of the continent is
dominated by Canada, the United States
of America, Greenland, and Mexico.

SOUTH AMERICA is the fourth largest
continent in terms of land area and is
fifth in terms of population, with an
area covering approximately 17.84
million square kilometers and a
population of more than 420 million.
South America is continent known for
it's various geographical features and
biodiversity. The Angel falls, the
world's highest uninterrupted
waterfall is situated in Venezuela. The
Amazon River, which is the biggest
river in the world (in terms of
volume), and the Amazon forest,
which is the largest rainforest on
Earth are both situated in this
continent. This continent is also home
to Amazing flora and fauna. Some of
these are anacondas, piranhas,
jaguars, and other unique tropical
birds and monkeys.

Antarctica is the coldest
continent on Earth. Much of
this continent is made of large
permanent glaciers that
surround the South Pole. There
is no permanent inhabitants in
this continent. Antarctica the
least populated continent on
Earth, with a population of less
than 5000. It is also home to
very few plant and animals
species.

EUROPE is the sixth largest
continent by land area and the third
most populated continent in the
world after Asia and Africa. It is
composed of 51 countries. It is the
most economically developed
continent where European Union,
the biggest economic and political
union, is situated. Russia is the
largest country in Europe, while
Vatican City is the smallest.
EUROPE AND Asia are the parts of
the same major Landmass, and they
are separated by Ural mountains
and the Caspian Sea, Europe is
bordered by the Arctic Ocean in the
North side, the Atlantic Ocean on
the West side, Mediterranean Sea
to the south, and the black sea and
connected waterways on the
southeast.

Australia is the smallest
continent by total land area.
Because of it's size and location,
it is also called an "island
continent". This con is
surrounded by Indian Ocean
and Pacific Ocean. Australia is
one of the least populated
continents and is rich in
biodiversity. The great Barrier
Reef, which is the largest coral
reef in the world, is in Australia.
Countries included in the
Australian continent included
Australia,Papua New Guinea,
and portions of Indonesia.

Landforms in the Philippines.
The Philippines has many natural
landforms. Land may be flat while
others are high and mountainous.
The Various contours of land are
the features of the various islands
comprising the Philippine
archipelago.

A. Most of the Philippines major islands have active and
dormant volcanoes. The country has about 37 known
volcanoes, if which 18 are confirmed as active. Some of
them are enumerated below.
1. Mt. Mayon, an almost perfect cone- shaped volcano
found in Legaspi City, Albay.
2. Mt. Pinatubo, located in the Zambales Mountains.
3. Taal volcano, the smallest volcano in the Philippines,
located at the middle of taal lake.
4. Mt. Bulusan, located in Sorsogon.
5. Mt. Hibok-Hibok, located in Camiguin island.
6. Mt. Apo, the highest mountain in the Philippines, with a
height of 9,692 ft above sea level located in Davao City.
7. Mt. Banahaw, located between the province of Laguna
and Quezon.
8. Mt. Iraya, located in Batan Island, in Batanes.

B. The Philippines is also teeming with non-
volcanic mountains, hills, and mountain ranges.
Some of them are enumerated below.
1.Mt. Dulang-Dulang, located in Kitanglad
Range,Bukidnon, which is the second highest
mountain in the Philippines.
2. Sierra Madre Mountains located in Northern
Luzon.
3.Mt. Pulag in Ifugao.
4. Mt.Halcon in Oriental Mindoro.
5.Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Occidental.
6. The Chocolate hills of bohol.
7. Antipolo hills in Rizal.

C. There are also flat lands in the Archipelago. Some flat lands
are called plains which serve as good sites to raise crops and
to build town and cities. Some flat lands are located between
mountains, and these are called valleys. There are also
flatlands that are located in high-level areas, and these are
called plateaus.
1. The Central Plain of Luzon is the largest lowland in the
country. The soil on this plain is very fertile. Most of the land
is planted with rice seedlings. The Central Plain is popularly
known as the Rice Granary of the Philippines.
2.Cagayan Valley provides the century's top agricultural
crops rangingfrom rice ,corn, sugarcane, banana, coconut,
and tobacco.
3. Trinidad Valley is known as the salad bowl in the
Philippines it is located in the Mountain Province. The Valley
had fertile soil the produces the freshent farm-grown fruits
and vegetables.

There are seven continents in the
world, namely: Africa, Asia,
Antarctica, Australia, Europe,
North America, and South
America.

The Philippines has many Natural
landforms. In some places, the
land may be smooth, while in
others the land may rough.
