This document discusses how computers and the internet have changed our perceptions of identity. It explores how we project our ideas and fantasies online, augment our intellects, and fulfill social desires through virtual interactions. Both real and artificial boundaries are negotiated as we navigate online spaces and take on new roles. While the virtual world allows us to express ourselves in new ways, overuse may lead to social isolation, shallow interactions, and fragmented cultures between online and offline lives. Moderation and balance are important to reap the benefits while minimizing disadvantages.
