We celebrate black history month to show that we appreciate the people who have stood up for what is right. In this essay I will be talking about his life growing up and his family, his important life events, and other interesting facts. His Daughter
- 3. LIFE GROWING UP First, Robert Yorke's life was difficult he was the man of the house. Robert was born on May 4, 1932 in Trinidad and Tobago. Then after his father was arrested he quit school to work at a brick factory to raise money. Although Robert thought education was vey important he knew his family was even more important. Robert's family includes his mother- Jane Yorke his father- Adam Yorke and his eight siblings. Then when he was an adult he married Greta in London. Robert had 2 kids Dorothy and Richard. He left to the UK to take a design engineering job. Robert went to the Caribbean working for 2 years. Finally he then left the UK and went back to Trinidad and Tobago to create his own company. Robert Yorke won many awards including; the people choice award, career of excellence, and the service award. He also got a doctorate degree. Robert was the first toboggan to purchase a huge hotel. - 4. ACHIEVEMENTS/OBSTACLES Next, Robert came across some rough roads in his life, but still persevered. One achievement Robert made was he became the chief engineer designer. Robert also traveled across the world, he was a famous design engineer. Some obstacles that he had to complete were difficult. When Robert was with his friends by the dock he was sometimes caught by the estate manager. He was fishing and killing illegal lake. Other times his father was arrested for cutting up a cocoanut or drunk driving. Robert had a tough job of being the man of the house. He had to raise most of the money while his Dad was in jail and he had to quit school early.
- 5. CHARACTER TRAITS Finally, in this essay I will be telling you about some character traits and any important influences. One character trait is brave, it is hard to be the man of the house while your father's away. Another character trait to describe him is courageous, he was always helping and having confidence, he never gave up. Also going along with courageous is faith. He had faith in his family as a child an, an adult. The last word to describe him is determined. Robert was determined to accomplish all his goals. Robert didn't have many influences, but he did like a lot of famous engineers growing up.
- 6. CONCLUSION To sum it up, Robert Yorke is an African American hero that everyone should know about.
