Graduates are able to: Conduct interviews Communicate assessment results and recommendations Advise, support and guide clients  Develop rapport and identify and respond to the individual needs of clients in an empathetic manner Assess adult hearing ability Interpret results and identify recommendations based on assessment Select and fit hearing aids  Develop an appropriate rehabilitation program Select and fit assistive listening devices Make appropriate referrals Advocate for deaf and hard of hearing people and the hearing aid practitioner’s profession Develop and maintain ethical practice Document client interactions and follow business procedures Maintain personal safety and utilize effective infection control measures Maintain equipment to industry standards Identify political, social, demographic and economic factors influencing the hearing health profession  Program Learning Outcomes Distance-learning program  19 courses – 60 credits  Transfer credit is available for previous coursework Full-time completion in 2 years (4 courses in each fall & winter term; 1 course each spring term) Part-time completion in up to 6 years  200+ students in the program 80 applicants accepted each September 11 faculty members (full/part time)  1215 total program hours 705 lecture-equivalent hours  255 hands-on hours 75 seminar hours 180 field placement hours  1 mandatory trip (year 2, winter term, 10 days) to MacEwan in Edmonton Partnerships with local professionals (tutors) Proctored online exams Individual online/telephone support Quick Facts & Figures For more information, contact Regan Lavoie, Program Consultant Phone: 780-497-4142 800-799-6113 Fax: 780-497-4131 Email: [email_address] Website: www.macewan.ca/hearingaid   Contact Us Learning is completed with the use of a written (print) curriculum, required textbook readings, CD/DVDs and online resources, participation in online activities with the instructor and other students, and individualized instructor phone and/or email support. Distance Learning Format Practicum I  (90 hours, spring term) is completed in a scheduled lab in Edmonton  or  under the supervision of an approved professional in a dispensing clinic. Practicum II  (180 hours, spring  or  fall term) is completed as a field placement under the supervision of approved field placement professionals in hearing aid dispensing clinics. Practicums Year One  – Completed in a scheduled lab in Edmonton  or  under the supervision of an approved professional in a hearing aid dispensing clinic. Year Two Fall Term  – Completed in a scheduled lab in Edmonton  or  under the supervision of an approved professional in a hearing aid dispensing clinic. Year Two Winter Term  – Completed at a  mandatory  scheduled lab (10 days) at MacEwan in Edmonton.
