Mardan was named after Pir Mardan Shah, a prominent religious figure. It is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan and is known for its sugarcane production and unique sweets like Badayooni Perras. The population is over 98% Muslim. Several famous Pashto poets and writers originated from Mardan, including Ali Haidar Joshi, Andesh Saib, and Professor Dr. Salma Shaheen, contributing to Pashto literature. Mardan is also known for its Kabab dishes found in villages.
