My opinion about Social Media

Social media is indeed the biggest shaft since the industrial Revolution and it is going to stay and expand
over the years. Industrial Revolution of 1760 has had a vast impact on the world and our lives and it is the
major turning point of the history.

If we compare the Industrial Revolution which happened some 250 years ago and Social Media, I believe
Social Medias influence is much greater since it has the power to change things instantly.

Social Media has become a critical part of our lives and it can affect and control everyone from a business
entity like Alhambra Hardware who receives product information requests via its website to an individual
like a cab driver who receives radio on where to pick up a customer.

Today everyone engages in some sort of social media tool like facebook and Twitter via Smart Phones,
Internet, Ipad, and Ipod etc. Hence, it doesnt take too long for anything to reach from one part of the
planet to another part. The best example is the very famous song Gamnam Style by Psy a South Korean
rapper. Its popularity has grown all over the world in matter of months and has been ranked first on
Youtube's 'Most Viewed Videos' monthly chart. According to Wikipedia, since November 2012 Gamnam
Style has become the most viewed video in YouTube history. Psy has performed his popular song live at
The today Show, The Ellen Show, MTV Europe Music Award to name few. His popularity is only
possible with the help of the social media and without it he wouldnt have been the winner of 19 national
and international awards. His main popularity platform is Social Media video sharing Youtube which was
founded in February 2005. Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals and if it
wasnt for that one particular video post on this site the Gumum Style singer would have been just one of
the many unknown singers.

Social Media has a vast impact even in unstable countries e.g. Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. As per my
own personal experience there were times that I wanted to reach a loved one over the land line phone but
to do so we had to set up a time and date to contact or the other person had to travel to the neighboring
country to use a phone to talk. Today as I hear, everyone in a family of 5 adults possesses a cell phone.
There is no need for long waits; there is no need for long trips and no hassle at all to talk to someone.
Families are connected with the help of some sort of Social Media e.g. Facebook, Messenger or Skype. It
will be very interesting to know what is next in this fast changing Social Media era.
