- 4. Short about.me 揃 I am mentor since 2010, approved by Cwickert. 揃 I am also ambassador, and co-/leader of the HU community since 2009. 揃 My activity mostly translation, localization, community care, and 揃 Also I do various contributions within the Fedora project (Marketing, and more)

So, Mentoring... 揃 Mentoring in Fedora is a process to teach and approve the right candidates as ambassadors 揃 Ambassadors are the heart and backbone of the community, who are leading, and aiding community many ways 揃 Mentors are the teachers, and care for ambassadors 揃 Sometimes starters of the new local communities by giving an new qualified ambassadors 揃 If ambassadors are the face of the community, mentors are soul of the ambassadors.

Current mentoring process 揃 Receiving asks, and introductions within email to be approved for mentoring process 揃 Choosing a mentor 揃 Mentor registering the candidate in the trac Tracker 揃 Mentor sends welcome and instructions that the candidate has to follow 揃 Takes care, and meets online regularly with the candidate, giving informations about/around Fedora 揃 If the mentor finds the candidate ready to work for the community, adds him/her to the mentors list in FAS2 揃 Mentor closing the ticket in FAMA trac Tracker ticket

As a Mentor must know... 揃 Check that candidate truly read through all supplied information in the welcome message and understand them 揃 Maintain a check list to ensure that candidates passed all required steps 揃 Support them to do their new task whenever they want/ask for, and better to inspire them, instead to do it 揃 IRC office hour $time periodically as necessary on #fedora- mentors, or in ML so the candidate can catch you some way 揃 Make IRC lessons with logged sessions - this gonna help to proof lot of things 揃 Know how to balance your time and resources

As a Candidate must know... 揃 Complete process is based on trust, share you availability 揃 Mentor is helping to you, but you have to work yourself 揃 Given tasks are the road to complete your process 揃 Mentors are also humans, and need to respect the care you receive 揃 A mentor keeps the contact with you if you are responding eg. IRC office hour $time periodically on #fedora- mentors, or in ML 揃 Make IRC lessons with logged sessions - this gonna proof lot of things

Few Mentoring process infra PROBLEMS 揃 Candidate cannot check or follow proceeding, or see the whole process no open website for them only ML. 揃 Mentors wiki page is alive, but no mentor approval process for experienced ambassadors? 揃 Mentors has no clear path: detailed guidelines about what to teach, to get equally qualified ambassadors 揃 Trac needs some more fine grained milestones, that can be fitted for the needs of the candidate 揃 Mentors has no central website (hub), that shows some bio, real face of them, and no fedocal based availability 揃 No any kind of digital ambassadors starter pack, and central Fedora press page (press release, pics, contacts)

What can be the possible Solution? 揃 Possibly would be an great option to... ... make an new code of conduct for mentors, and teaching guidelines for new ambassadors work on the created content manager plugin and static website (hub) make an digital starter pack for ambassadors (website content) make an fedora press center and contacts website (similar to the Firefox one to see who is brings the leader flag) fix and update the current wiki how-to's and such
