Motivation- An introduction  It is a sort of forces that moves a person towards a goal. Motivation at work place deals with "What do people want from their jobs? for e.g. Jim  - I think that you are crazy for quitting your job at  the factory. The work may have been boring but it pays  better than any other job around here. Frank  - Maybe your right but I couldn't hack it. The job  drove me up the wall. Even though  I don't earn as  much money in my new job, I enjoy it. There's  something new every day and I'm glad I made the  move.
Facts of the Case United Electric Controls Company (Owned by Mr. David Reis & his elder brother Mr.  Robert Reis) which deals in manufacturing of industrial temperature & pressure control was on the verge of closure due to the following reasons :- Autocratic Management Practices Operational Inefficiency.  Outdated Technology
Steps initiated to sort out problems.  Employees Participation in Management. Valued Ideas Program Action Center Program Cause & Effect Diagram with addition of cards  (CEDAC) .Contd.
Steps initiated to sort out problems.  Control on Floor activities  Pokayoka(Floor proofing). Efficient Inventory control  Kanban  (JIT production devised by Toyota). To set up SOPs by employees itself. Exec Committee support.
Critical Analysis of the case:-  In present situation, We could have turned the fortune of the company by application of following major initiatives : -  Work - Life balance. The Management could have hired the best consultancy to benchmark its operations & process. Personal Development Programs to identify their strength & weakness.  .Contd.
Critical Analysis of the case:-  Participation in management should go hand in hand with participation in profit. To build up Knowledge forum / Quality Circles in the company. Employee recognition programs viz best employee of the month / year, smiley cards etc. No specific mention about development of Technology though it was a major contributing reason for its impending closure.
