She is survived by her son David Lee Cates, daughter-in-law Christa, and granddaughter Olivia. Nancy had a large, close-knit family and loved spending time with them at the private lake she managed in 2005, which she named Tiki Lake after her dog.

He was persuaded to move to Persimmon Hollow, Florida in 1876 where he purchased land and encouraged others to invest in orange harvesting. DeLand donated land and money to transform the town, which was renamed DeLand in his honor. In 1883, he offered funding to build an academy to serve as a school and place of worship. The academy aimed to provide liberal education to prepare students for college. Though facing financial difficulties after a freeze destroyed orange trees, DeLand continuously supported the academy until offering it to John B. Charles Earl Lloyd lived from 1920 to 2011. He grew up in Charleston, Illinois with two brothers and five sisters. He worked for many years on the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railroad after previously working as a baker. He married Margaret Virginia Pinkstaff in 1938 and they had three children, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Charles loved animals, especially dogs.
