- 2. The distribution rate on a whole for newspapers is decreasing as technology is allowing new methods of conveying information, the number of hits on newspapers websites is on the increase compared to the decrease of the distribution rate. This graph on the left hand of the slide illustrates the amount of money spend on the different news mediums, from the diagram we can clearly see that print is still at the front of the mediums to relay the news. However even though 贈1.35billion was spent in the print industry, we can clearly see a usage of other mediums, the data was collected in 2011, so based on predictions the online mediums has vastly increased as due to the increase in tablets and 3G apps.
- 3. Local newspapers are taking on a new form of media to relay their information; you can download an e-edition of Canterbury Times which allows you to access your newspaper from online. Benefits: people who cannot go to their local provider can access the news online; this enables disabled people and busy families to keep up to date with the news within the convenience of their own home. Issues: not everyone has access to the Internet to allow them to download the newspaper, this is a disadvantage to unprivileged families as they cannot access the news, hence there are limitations to the online edition.
- 4. The usage of Apps for local newspapers has led to another sense of revenue for local newspapers along side print productions. Local newspapers can charge the reader for subscription, this essentially saves printing costs. Environmentally it is beneficial, it decrease the amount of wastage of paper aswell as the amount of material used which goes into print; for example, ink, paper and manual labour aswell as the machinery used to put together the magazine. Regional newspapers quickly joined the new idea of using a android app to relay the news; in my local magazine I want to mimic this idea so that my newspaper could potentially compete with larger newspaper companies. I found the following statistics to back up my idea that by using an app as a feature it would increase my readership, as The Times converted 79,000 users to paid subscribers by the end of February, this includes those signing up through iPad and Kindle. Since February the figure has grown to 101,036 of people paying monthly for subscriptions, this is across web, tablet and e-reader devices. Daily 35,000 editions of The Times and 32,000 editions of The Sunday Times were downloaded from tablet apps.

The benefits of Digital publications such as the E-edition is that it allows small newspaper firms to gain new target audiences on a global scale through the internet, this allows the flow of news data to be more effectively past on, hence increasing sales. 1.Hyperlinking the pages to the contents page allows an easy of access rather than having to flick through the pages to find the right article. 2.With e-publications, you save the costs for printing and distribution. 3.The reader can leave feedback, which the publisher can then use to tailor their newspaper articles and layout to accommodate the readers opinions. 4.Old publications are saved and chronologically ordered, this provides easy access to old archived content.

This also allows the reader to comment, share or like the article giving the distributer an insight into what the target audience actually want to read aswell as spreading their distribution through sharing the articles with their friends on the social networking sites.
