CALL UP NUMBER: NYSC/LUT/18/002969.
February, 2019.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT/APPRECIATION
My profound gratitude goes to God for his inspiration and grace to this service year in Ilorin south local
government, my appreciation also goes to my amiable NYSC Zonal Inspector and local government
inspector in person of Mrs Babatunde and Mr. Muyiwa Ololude respectively, for being source of
motivation and to entire NYSC staff at Ilorin south local government.
When I first came from the NYSC orientation Camp I notice road crashes do occur at narrow road from
C&S College to Emmanuel Baptist Church and Maraba junction. I thought of how to solve these
problems facing the community. First thing, I noticed there was no warning signpost along C&S college
to Emmanuel church likewise no safety awareness signs at Maraba Junction. The absence of these
necessitated my choosing to construct a warning signpost; also, having realized the importance of safety
information in our community, I have decided to do the signpost as a means of sensitize the road users.
Lack of safety information has caused many road crashes.
Indeed it has not been easy sourcing for fund. But glory be to God who makes provision available. I
therefore wish to extend my profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to some individuals that
supported my vision and contributed in no small measure both morally and financially for the execution
of the projects. I have to acknowledge the local government inspector, CDS Supervisor, FRSC supervisor
my fellow corps members and all the staff, students and PTA members of this citadel of learning. God
will reward all of you.
At this junction, I wish to thank all those that came to witness this occasion. You are all welcome
and I pray that the Almighty God will continue to be with you. Thanks and God bless you all. Amen.
My appreciation goes to the following wonderful people for play a vital role in making the

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD DIRECTIONAL, WARNING AND
TRAFFIC SAFETY AWARENES SIGNPOSTS.
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Road traffic accident has been a major challenge in our country. Many have passed to the great
beyond from our roads. Though our governments are doing some great job to make our roads
safe, there are still some areas that are still in a very bad state. Now the question is bad road the
major cause of road traffic accident in Nigeria? I am of the opinion that bad road is not the
major cause of accident on our roads, but human factors and mechanical factors are.
Then the most important part; How to reduce road traffic accident in Nigerian roads?
Accident is a sudden unwanted occurrence which could result to loss of life and properties.
From my own view we intend to record more accidents on well constructed road than bad road
areas and at any busy junctions. It seems our drivers get so carried away with the smoothness of
the road, and tend to move at a very high speed on these good roads.
Road traffic accident is therefore an issue of great international concern as it has emerged
as the single greatest source of death all over the world. In the developing countries like Nigeria
where the number of motor vehicles relating to population is generally much lower than in the
developed countries, fatalities from automobile crashes are higher. It has been shown, for
instance that accidents in developing countries cost almost one percent of these countries Annual
Gross National Product utilizing scarce financial resources they can ill-afford to lose
(Akpoghomeh, 1998).
The Nigeria situation has reached such an alarming proportion even to the point of sheer
frustration and near helplessness the road users must show responsibility when driving. One must
question the attitude of the drivers. Drivers must use the roads in the rightful manner, obeying
traffic signs, safety tips, symbols and speed limits erected in the conscupious places.
After serious traffic studies in some part of the city to know cause of bikes, tricycle, pedestrians
and motors crash, it was discovered that most road Zusers are impatient, void of safety tips at the
junctions and abuse traffic rules.
1.2 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The projects were based majorly on the design and construction of road directional and traffic
safety signs at the Maraba, CBN junctions and erection one warning sign at C&S college
Sabo Oke and forwarding request letter to Kwara state government through KWATMA to
provide speed bump at Emmanuel Baptist via C&S college narrow road Sabo Oke Ilorin
Kwara and distribution of book items to students of Kwara State School for Special Needs
from JSS 1 SS1 and Rewarding best nine (9) students of JSS 1-3 OF C&S College Sabo-
Oke, with book items
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of the project is to comparatively sensitize and familiarize the road users about the
importance of traffic signs and risks in violating safety rules. The objectives are as follows
To contribute to public safety of our roads such as busy roundabout and junctions.
To direct the road users through directional sign before reaching the junction.
To Sensitize the road users; pedestrians, motorists, bike and tricycle riders about safety
tips.
To reduce road crashes in the community.
To avoid over speeding, overloading, wrongful over take and use of cell phones, which
put your lives and property in great danger and which usually characterized the period.
To encourage the less privileged students by sharing book items to them
1.4 SIGNIFICANT OF THE PROJECT
Road accidents have become a frequent incident that called for sensitizing of road users
which comprises of Pedestrians, motorists, motor cycle and tri- cycle riders within the state to
assist the government and promote the safety of the community. Based on the traffic study
carried out within Ilorin metropolis, the rate at which people are violating traffic rules in our
junctions and school areas is alarming. While the project is targeting to address road accident and
enhance safety awareness tips in the concern areas.
1.5 WHO THE PROJECT IS TARGETED AT
1. Pedestrians (E.g. Students in primary and Secondary Schools)
The project will benefit the pedestrians especially the students walking along or across the road.
it would minimize the victim of being knock down or hit by the bike rider
2. Motorists (Commercial and Private Drivers)
The project will also help the drivers both public and private driver on safety tips needed to obey
on the road.
3. Cyclist (Tricycles)
This will help mostly the bike and tricycles riders who always enter junctions without obeying or
consider safety of other road users which is one of the major causes of road accidents.
1.6 STRATEGY ON ACTUALIZING THE PROJECT
This project does not just end with construction of road sign post but conscious creation on
awareness on the importance of road and its safety to the users and the community. In the light of
this, the following are the strategies or analysis of how the projects were actualized and executed
that is to say, the work to be done in the course of the project.
(a) Observing of challenges faced the area
(b) Engaging in intensive traffic studies of Maraba and CBN junction
(c) Making enquiries on how to get the project done.
(d) Involving Federal Road Safety Corps including ministry of works in accessing the proposed
project.
(f) Designing and construction after being approved.
1.7 DURATION OF THE PROJECT
The projects were divided into six (6) phases which covered a period three (3) months that is
nine weeks. What is involved in each phase is outlined below.

2.0 DISTRIBUTION OF BOOK ITEMS FOR STUDENTS OF KWARA STATE
SCHOOL, FOR SPECIAL NEEDS.
2.1 AIM: - To encourage and motivate students of less privilege and physically challenged
so that they will not feel inferior and unlucky ones in the society.
2.2 REPORT ON BOOKS DISTRIBUTION AT SCHOOL OF SPECIAL NEEDS AND
C&S COLLEGE SABO- OKE
Kwara State School for Special need is a school of special needs located at Apata Yakuba in
Ilorin metropolis. Upon visited the school, I found out that there is need to motivate and
encourage the students, the school comprises of different forms of disable students, such as
blinds and deafs. I decided to provide a book item for the student from JSS 1 to SS 1 to
contribute and render a self less service as a mean to make the have sense of belonging to the
community. I approached the committee of C&S English chapel and some individuals,
forwarded a letter explaining the motive and importance of the project in the community and
they were pleased with the idea and gave their support for the project. They also gave me the
necessary support technically which enabled me raise financial support for the work. The
principal and Teachers were helpful in the communication and distribution of the books to the
students. The books were officially distributed to the students from JSS 1 to SS 1on the 14th of
February, 2019 and to the best three (3) students of JSS 1-3 in the presence of the School
Teachers and few corps members were also present.
SPONSORSHIP: The Books provision was sponsored by committee of C&S NO 1, Ilorin,
Kwara State.
APPROVAL: - The approval for this project was sought from the NYSC and approval given. As
earlier attached is the letter of approval.
ACHIEVEMENT: - The provision of books item motivated and encouraged the students to be

CHAPTER THREE
3.0 ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN ROAD SAFETY CDS GROUP
I actively participated in my Community Development Service, Road Safety Club we
Educate motorist and members of the public on the importance of discipline on the highways.
 Controlling traffic on the highways
Organizing quiz and debates on road safety related issues among schools etc.
Establishment and awareness of road Safety club in schools
I was also elected as NYSC RSC Registrar for the CDS.
3.1 ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN ROAD SAFETY CDS GROUP SENSITISATIONS
TO SCHOOLS AND ROAD TRAFFIC CONTROL IN ILORIN.
Firstly, I fully participated in sensitizations of motorist to educate them on need for safety
awareness, I am also part of team responsible for traffic control at some major junctions like
Maraba, Pake in Ilorin etc care of the computer in order to avoid common faults and damages.
Secondly, I also participated in the Ember month flag off mega rally organized by FRSC Kwara
state sector command where drivers were sensitize on danger of over loading, over speeding and
drink while driving. I also acted as a member of the Road Safety secondary schools
establishment committee and project committee for the group. I sincerely appreciate my
Community Development cadets for the opportunity giving to me to serve the cds and all
members of the group for their co- operation.
3.2 CONCLUSION/ RECOMMENDATION
It has been a pleasure serving my country in this capacity and meeting the wonderful people of
Ilorin. It is indeed an unforgettable experience for which I appreciate General Yakubu Gowon
who established it. I want to recommend that the NYSC platform be further broadened and
modified to suit the present challenges of Nigeria instead of being scrapped. I also recommend
that much more emphasis be placed on community development as a major interest for corps
members because through these I have learnt a lot more than what was offered in my place of
primary assignment. In addition, I wish to recommend that the NYSC management should make
funds available for corps members who wish to carry out certain Community Development
Service of which may be financially handicapped in terms of sponsors.
It is very obvious that challenges do occur in the course of the project, but I did not relent
or be overwhelmed by any challenges as I am determined to contribute my quota to safety of the
people, community development and selfless sacrifice as my utmost priority.

It is indeed an unforgettable experience for which I appreciate General Yakubu Gowon who established it. I want to recommend that the NYSC platform be further broadened and modified to suit the present challenges of Nigeria instead of being scrapped. I also recommend that much more emphasis be placed on community development as a major interest for corps members because through these I have learnt a lot more than what was offered in my place of primary assignment. In addition, I wish to recommend that the NYSC management should make funds available for corps members who wish to carry out certain Community Development Service of which may be financially handicapped in terms of sponsors. It is very obvious that challenges do occur in the course of the project, but I did not relent or be overwhelmed by any challenges as I am determined to contribute my quota to safety of the people, community development and selfless sacrifice as my utmost priority.
