Deze keynote werd gehouden door Arjan El Fassed, directeur Open State, voorafgaand aan de presentaties van de drie genomineerden voor de Toekomst Prijs, tijdens het middagprogramma van De Tegel in de Steenbergen Foyer van de Koninklijke Schouwburg. De winnaar, Yournalism, werd van de Toekomst Prijs tijdens het avondprogramma van De Tegeluitreiking bekend gemaakt.
Op 12 maart 2014 organiseerde het Nederlandstalig Platform voor Survey-onderzoek een themamiddag open access tot survey-data.
Elk jaar spenderen overheden een fors publiek bedrag aan onderzoek in Nederland. Met bijna vijf miljard euro per jaar geeft alleen al de rijksoverheid opdracht voor allerhande grote en kleine onderzoeken. Tel daarbij al het onderzoek op dat jaarlijks in opdracht van gemeenten, provincies en andere overheden gedaan wordt. Deze herbergen een schat aan data die men zou moeten kunnen hergebruiken. Het ontsluiten van onderzoeksdata stimuleert ook nog eens innovatie. Uit onderzoeken in onder andere Denemarken en het Verenigd Koninkrijk blijkt dat het delen van onderzoeksdata een enorm economisch voordeel kan opleveren. Welke mogelijkheden ontstaan als onderzoeksdata ontsloten wordt? Welke besparingen leveren dat op? Hoeveel overlap is er eigenlijk en hoeveel kunnen decentrale overheden besparen als onderzoeksdata waar zij publieke middelen voor inzetten wordt ontsloten? Welk maatschappelijk en economisch rendement levert dit op? En wat zijn de belemmeringen, obstakels en zorgen? Hoe zorg je ervoor dat hergebruik mogelijk is en data ook echt open en toegankelijk is voor ontwikkelaars, app bouwers en anderen?
