Open Educational Resources (OER) are freely accessible, openly licensed teaching and learning materials like textbooks, videos, and tests. This document outlines both the benefits and challenges of OER. The benefits include cost savings for students, increased access to high-quality educational content, and enhanced reputation for educational institutions. However, challenges include ensuring quality, long-term sustainability, lack of understanding among the public, and issues with certain open licenses. The document concludes by discussing the author's experience taking an OER course and plans to create OER in their subject area.
