About the Program The YPWA Development and Mentoring Program (LDMP) is for high-performing, high-potential young professional women who are wanting to develop their professional capabilities and accelerate their careers. No two LDMP experiences are the same, as each participant has a tailored mentoring experience. The program targets essential professional skills from communication to articulating a strong personal brand. With a powerful mentoring relationship and access to a wide range of resources, LDMP participants grow in self-confidence, clarity, and resilience. They are equipped with strategies to regulate the self, navigate the marketplace, and effectively engage with their work and workplaces. The Starting Point The women who entered this program had leadership capabilities, or demonstrated potential for them. They came from different industries and experience levels, all wanting to enrich their skill sets to become better leaders and high performing professionals. Negative self-talk, low self-belief, uncertainty, fear of compromising work/life balance, hesitancy towards change, and wavering confidence to ask for exactly what they wanted in their workplaces, were attributes that nearly every woman shared. I was in search for a program that could help me to clarify my directions and provide objective mentoring. I felt the more I progressed into senior roles, the less training was made available and if I didnt keep learning I would not continue to be an effective leader. Consequently, some of our participants goals were: Balance work/life; measure expectations of self; confidence to push back & set boundaries; Get clear about my goals and set them for work and life. I want to learn how to be a good leader. I want to be able to mentor and inspire my team members and promote teamwork and collaboration. I want to develop my skills as an influencer and create bonds with colleagues. The YPWA Experience The YPWA mentoring program helped women identify and break down each obstacle that was holding them back helping them develop every single leadership skill. Women were connected with a mentor, a supportive peer cohort, and a range of tailored materials delivering a wealth of strategies and frameworks to build their personal brand, develop communication, decision making and people management skills, enhance their leadership potential, broaden their professional networks and grow in confidence to back themselves and drive their careers. YPWA has provided numerous workshops on improving self-confidence and identifying my personal brand, which has helped me to build a solid understanding and clear message about who I am and how I connect with people. I also largely benefited from my mentor whom increased my networking opportunities, provided tangible tools and resources, along with operational advice. Results Over the program participants were asked to rank their perceived capability across several areas on a scale of 1-10 (1 being no capability and 10 being 100% capability). Return on Investment By the close of the program, participants had demonstrated significant improvements across all capabilities. Newfound clarity and enhanced self-perception as a capable, effective and engaging leader were the most valuable outcomes articulated by program participants. Many went on to apply for new and challenging opportunities and/or receive promotions and pay rises. Since the program I have moved two levels up and now Im reporting directly to the CFO and managing a team. When I got the position, I negotiated that I should get the mid-range salary. After 6 months of demonstrating my capability, I had another pay rise and the top range was given to me. I have learned to empower myself and the people I collaborate with, which has made cross business units function well together. I have learned to be self-aware of my own emotions so I can remain calm and productive under stressful situations, which has delivered great results to my employer and my customers.
