Through her political science class, she has learned about different aspects of Texas government and politics, such as capital punishment costs, that she was previously unaware of. THINGS THAT MOTIVATE ME TO BECOME AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN POLITICS • I believe that it is very import for people to play an active role in politics so that we can make positive changes to our country. Listening and participating in the things going on throughout the political environment allows people to be given the chance to take a stand for their beliefs, and offer solutions to help the country. • I choose to vote because I want us Americans to keep our freedoms, and for our country to be led by the best.
- 3. Before this class I understood the basics on how the government works but this class has went into deeper detail than ever before. The things that most surprised me throughout this semester was learning about how complex the federal government really is and all the different courts that are available.
- 4. IMMIGRATION • The most important political issue to consider for future generations is the topic of immigration. Immigration has been a very controversial issue for a very long time, some people believe that immigrants should be kept out, and others want them to be left alone. Due to economic issues, values, and security immigration has been a big fight throughout America.
- 5. THE FIRST AMENDMENT • I believe that the first amendment is the most important of the 27 amendments to our constitution because we all deserve to have the right to speak our minds, and to protest against the things that we do not believe in. Under the first amendment we are guaranteed the right of freedom of religion, speech and press, and the right to petition the government.
- 6. LESSONS I HAVE LEARNED • Throughout this semester I have learned how important it is that everybody takes a role in being active in the political environment. Everyone has the chance to help make this country a better place for us to live in. • I have also learned that there is a long complex process for things to be passed. For instance, for a bill to be passed it has to be accepted through the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and then the President to make it into a law.
