The document discusses lateral thinking puzzles that are intended to exercise creative and non-linear thinking. It then covers various topics related to how the brain works, including its major parts like the cerebrum and cerebellum. It discusses how neurons transmit signals and how the brain is affected by drug use. Finally, it introduces the concept of mind mapping as a graphical technique that mirrors how the brain works by making thinking and note-taking more visual.

The document discusses how the brain works and how it can be improved through learning. It describes the three main parts of the brain - the brain stem, cerebellum, and cerebrum. It also discusses neurons and how the brain develops most in the first three years of life. The document explores the theory of left brain and right brain dominance and their different characteristics. It introduces the concept of mind mapping as a creative learning technique. Throughout, it emphasizes that the brain is like a muscle that strengthens with use and challenges, and that everyone has the ability to learn and grow their brain capacity.
The document discusses how the brain works and how it can be improved through learning. It explains that the brain has three main parts - the brain stem, cerebellum, and cerebrum. Neurons are the basic functional units that power thought and movement. The brain experiences most growth in the first three years of life and is adaptable throughout life. While some drugs can damage the brain, it is shown that the brain remains able to learn and grow stronger through challenges and practice, as its neural connections multiply. Learning engages both the left and right hemispheres, and people can develop their strengths in both logical and creative thinking.
The document discusses developing the powers of the mind by understanding left and right brain functions and using techniques suited to different thinking styles. It suggests making a plan to improve learning using both left and right brain development. Specifically, it discusses mind mapping as a graphical technique that mirrors how the brain works, invented by Tony Buzan, and how it can be used to organize ideas, notes, writing and problem solving using both sides of the brain. It also discusses how exercise and practice can make the brain stronger by building connections between neurons.
The document discusses developing the powers of the mind by understanding left and right brain functions and using techniques suited to different thinking styles. It suggests making a plan to improve learning using both left and right brain development. Specifically, it discusses mind mapping as a graphical technique that mirrors how the brain works, invented by Tony Buzan, and how it can be used for note taking, planning, and problem solving by engaging both sides of the brain. Research shows that the brain changes and gets stronger with exercise and practice as connections multiply, making it easier to learn new things. The story of Michael Jordan's dedication to practice and improvement even after initially failing to make his high school basketball team illustrates how determination and hard work can lead to success.
The document discusses improving learning through understanding left and right brain functions. It begins with three learning objectives about discussing left and right brain functions and their impact on learning, exploring mind mapping techniques suited to different thinking styles, and making a plan to improve learning using both sides of the brain. It then provides examples of lateral thinking puzzles and activities on brain dominance and mind mapping. It discusses research showing mathematically gifted youth have better integration between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. It emphasizes that the brain continues developing abilities through life with use and that one can grow their intelligence over time.
Personality Development Module 6: Powers of Mind John Labrador
油
This document discusses the powers of the mind and how to improve learning. It begins by outlining the objectives of understanding left and right brain functions and how they relate to learning styles. It then describes the three major parts of the brain and how neurons function. It discusses that the brain experiences most growth by age 3 and can be damaged by drugs. It also covers the left and right brain theory, including advantages and disadvantages. Finally, it provides activities on determining brain dominance and creating a collaborative mind map.
Roger Sperry discovered and developed the concept of left brain and right brain theory. He found that the two hemispheres of the brain think differently - the left brain is more logical and methodical, dealing with language and numbers, while the right brain is more creative and intuitive, focusing on visuals, images, and emotions. Sperry proved this theory by studying patients who had undergone surgery to cut the corpus callosum connecting the two sides. Further research identified differences in how left-brained and right-brained people process information and make decisions.
This document discusses various creative thinking techniques including brainstorming, mind mapping, SCAMPER, the six thinking hats technique, and insight problems. It provides examples of each technique and how they can be applied. For instance, it explains that mind mapping involves starting with a central image and connecting branches with keywords, colors and curved lines. It also provides sample questions that could be used with techniques like verbal insight problems and describes elements that can encourage creativity like time limits and having fun.
The document discusses the myth of multitasking and the differences between right brain and left brain thinking. It notes that major studies have shown that multitasking decreases productivity by up to 40% and that it takes 20 minutes to refocus on a task after an interruption. The document also explains that right brain thinking is more visual and intuitive, focusing on shapes, lines and colors, while left brain thinking is more logical and uses symbols and labels. It emphasizes that to draw well, one needs to tap into right brain thinking and see objects as combinations of shapes and lines rather than symbols or labels.
Howard Gardner's Multiple IntelligencesMavict Obar

Howard Gardner introduced the theory of multiple intelligences which identified 8-9 different types of intelligences that people possess. The document discusses each of these intelligences and provides teaching strategies to engage each type of intelligence. It also includes a multiple intelligence survey for participants to determine their dominant intelligence by scoring highest in specific sections that correspond to the different intelligences.

The document discusses the structure and functions of the three main parts of the human brain:
1) The cerebrum, which controls functions like movement, thought, senses, and is divided into four lobes that control specific tasks.
2) The cerebellum, which controls motor skills and tasks requiring coordination like balance. It also impacts cognitive functions.
3) The brain stem, which is the oldest part of the brain and controls vital functions like breathing, blood pressure, digestion and arousal. It connects the cerebrum to the spinal cord.
It then provides a quiz to determine if a person's left or right brain hemisphere is dominant based on their preferences and traits.
This document provides information on mind maps and how to make them for kids. It begins with an overview of what mind maps are, which are diagrams that visually organize information with a central topic and related branches. It then lists 8 benefits of mind maps for kids, such as helping with circular thinking, problem-solving, goal-setting, and memorization. Specific tips are provided on how to create a mind map, including using keywords, colors, and images. Examples of mind maps are shown. The document concludes by providing step-by-step instructions to create a mind map on the topic of bullying with a child.
The document discusses various topics related to thinking and cognition, including:
1) Edward De Bono's "6 Thinking Hats" technique which involves considering a problem from 6 perspectives represented by differently colored hats to reduce conflict and improve thinking.
2) How the left and right hemispheres of the brain are associated with different types of thinking and functions.
3) Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences which includes verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal intelligences.

The document discusses the perfection of human memory. It argues that memory is far better than most people think, and may in fact be perfect. While people focus on the small number of things they forget each day, they recall billions of memories unconsciously. Negative beliefs about memory decline with age are unfounded - memory only declines if not used, and can improve throughout life. With the right techniques, names and numbers are easy to remember. The document suggests human memory may be perfect based on vivid dreams of past memories and instances of random perfect recall.

This document summarizes a presentation about how drawing exercises can benefit the brain. It discusses how drawing uses both sides of the brain and can help improve memory, focus, and creativity. The presenter taught drawing lessons to journalists and students and saw promising results, like improved writing ability. Participants reported being able to focus better and "the story just flowed" after drawing. The presentation encourages learning to draw as a way to exercise the whole brain and access different modes of thinking.
This document discusses how psychology can be used by UX designers. It covers cognitive psychology, social psychology, and the three areas of the brain - the reptilian brain which governs basic functions, the middle brain which handles emotions, and the new brain which enables higher cognitive functions. It also discusses how fast and slow thinking work and how principles like visual perception, motivation, decision making, and expectations impact user experience. The document provides recommendations for applying concepts like visibility, grouping, color contrast, capitalization, images, engagement, and load times to design.
Lateral thinking is a creative problem-solving technique developed by Edward de Bono. It involves looking at problems in an indirect and creative way rather than only logically. Methods include idea generation tools, focus tools, and thinking hats to approach problems from different perspectives. The goal is to move from existing ideas to new ideas to solve problems through an indirect and creative approach rather than directly.

neurotransmitters. That signal continues

very slowly after a certain age.
During the first three years of life, the brain
experiences most of its growth and develops
most of its potential for learning. That's the time
frame in which synaptogenesis, or the creation of
pathways for brain cells to communicate, occurs.

Mind Mapping
Mind mapping- graphical technique
that mirrors the way the brain works,
and was invented by Tony Buzan.
It helps to make thinking visible.
Making notes more attractive to the
brain by adding color and rhythm can
aid the learning process, and can help
to make learning fun.

Mind Mapping
The subject being studied is in a
central image and the main theme
radiates out from the central image on
branches.
Each branch holds a key image or a
key word. Details are then added to
the main branches and radiate further
out.

Uses of Mind Mapping
notes taking, revision planning, planning for writing
and problem solving can all be successfully carried
out using the technique.
remembering information becomes easier.
- mind mapping brings together your 'left brain'
(which is thought to be associated with words, logic,
numbers and linearity) and your 'right brain' skills
(which are associated with curves, color, rhythm,
images and space), making your brain's
performance more synergetic.
