What I have learned about
podcasting
2
I am Louise Brogan
My podcast is
Social Bee Podcast
3
HELLO!
What is it about?
 Interviewing (mainly) women
etnrepreneurs about their journey
so far
 Sharing social media tips and
advice
 Some solo shows.
4
So far 36
episodes 庄稼

Preparation and planning
are key!
6
7
Why a guest based show?
Initially, I decided to have a guest based show, as I
wanted to inspire other women to think about
starting a business.
Also I thought it would be a great way to get
content for the show!
Cons
You are promoting
other peoples
businesses
Pros and Cons
Pros
I get to meet lots of
really fascinating
women and hear about
their businesses plus
grow a fantastic online
network!
8
9
How Do I find Guests?
Initially, I looked for guests who I had
connections with, and who were easy
to ask
Then I went through a period of
accepting requests..
Now a little more strategic
Podcasting
Services
I receive an email once a week
from PodcastGuests.com
I choose interesting sounding
potential guests from the list and
email them
10
Cold Calling SOMETIMES works.
11

12
 Depending on how
many I have on my list
if I get an email from
someone pitching me
for a guest spot, I will
read through and
decide if they are
suitable.
13
If you pitch a podcast
1. Have listened to their show before
2. If it is an interview show, what is your
story?
3. Make your pitch nice and short
4. BE polite!
5. It wont hurt to have been in contact
with the host on
Twitter/Instagram/FB before you
pitch
14
What not to do
 Keep changing your timeslot
 Sell sell sell
 Not sending through your
images/bio
Not sharing the episode once it
goes live
15
What about Solo Episodes
Having a solo episode gives you
time to shine
 Pick topics relevant to your
business
 Have a goal in mind!
16
Examples
I recently ran an online summit
called Raising Your Visibility
This gave me a chance to host
asolo episode on what it means to
raise your visibility, and then
follow up with an episode on how
to run an online summit..
17
Guest-watch
I also then invited my summit
hosts to come onto my podcast to
talk about their businesses win-
win!
18
Guest-watch
I keep my eyes open for
interesting business women
inside Facebook groups, on
Twitter chats and on LinkedIn..
You never know when a podcaster
is scouting for guests!
19
What makes a good guest?
Ideally someone who is not new to
podcasting!
Someone who has a story to tell
 Something to share with your
audience
 Someone who lets the interviewer
get a word in edgeways ;)
20
What about a freebie?
The best guests are those who
have something to offer your
audience!
A freebie pdf, a free email series,
a mini training
21
What guests should not do
If you are going to be a guest on a
podcast, this is an opportunity to
raise your profile
 HOWEVER
You want to give value to the
audience and the host
You are not there simply to self-
promote
22
So your podcast is live..
What next?
 How do you promote your
podcast?
Ask your guests to share it with
their audience
 Tweet, Facebook,
Instagramwherever your ideal
listener hangs out
23
Share share share
 There are specific groups online
for podcast sharing
 E.g. Help A Podcaster Out,
 ShePodcasts, PodernFamily
 Use podcasting hashtags
24
Email your list
 Send your podcast episode out
weekly to your list
Ask your listeners to share it with
one other person who may be
interested in listening
25
Press
 Reach out to journalists my
podcast was mentioned in The
Guardian as I tweeted the
journalist who runs the podcasting
column, and sent her a nice email
asking her to have a listen.
26
Guest Appearances
 Appear on other peoples blogs,
podcasts and memberships to
raise awareness of your podcast!
