  • #2: Introduction Were more sedentary now than ever. In fact, what youre doing now, sitting listening to me is bad for you! I want you to go home today with a clear understanding of the impacts sitting can have on your health and why sitting has been dubbed the new smoking. I also would like us to spend some time brainstorming simple changes we can all make to try to reduce the amount of time we spend sitting in order to mitigate these impacts on your health. As a result, please dont feel that you have to sit all day, feel free to stand up and move around as you wish.
  • #3: Things have changed. Our bodies werent designed to sit all day, yet everything we have done, all the advances we have made transportation, technology have been to make our lives easier, to remove the burden of moving on our bodies. But has this been a good thing? Of course, there have been benefits to the improvements in technology and transportation can you imagine a world without a car, a plane, the internet?? But there are negative consequences of these advancements, one of which relates to encouraging us all to sit more. This video will sum up some of the key issues
  • #4: There is now extensive evidence linking prolonged sitting to health conditions including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, depression and musculoskeletal problems, as well as an increased risk of premature mortality. And what is concerning is that this risk is present regardless of the amount of physical activity undertaken.
  • #6: Need to consider impacts of reducing sitting time in the workplace on productivity too
  • #7: 10-15 mins working in groups how to reduce sitting time at work plus feedback (use flipchart)
