- 7. What is Smoking? The action or habit of inhaling and exhaling the smoke of tobacco or a drug. The act is most commonly associated with tobacco as smoked in a cigarette, cigar, or pipe. Tobacco contains nicotine, an alkaloid that is addictive and can have both stimulating and tranquilizing psychoactive effects.

Predisposing factors include low socioeconomic status adverse childhood experiences mental illness are generally not easily changed. - 15. What is Third-hand Smoke? The persistence of tobacco smoke pollutants in dust and on surfaces after tobacco has been smoked. The residues of third-hand smoke can linger on the skin, clothes, and furniture of individuals who smoke. Pollutants can remain in the environment for weeks to months after the act of smoking occurs.
