The document discusses the key findings and recommendations of the 2010 Blue Ribbon Panel on clinical preparation and partnerships for improved student learning. The panel recommended that (1) clinical practice needs to be at the center of teacher preparation, (2) challenges like student and teacher attrition need to be addressed, and (3) partnerships must be strengthened to transform teacher preparation and better prepare teachers for future schools and students.

#5: One of the main technology sites we use in CAPS is the Ning. It is a social network group, like Facebook, but more secure and only open to people who have been accepted to the group. On the Ning we complete forums every week over different educational topics. Also on the Ning, we have all of our class links and handouts that we use in class. Our classroom calendar for the week is also included so we can be responsible for what is going on in class and what homework we have. Ning can be beneficial to teaching by having a class website to have homework posted, discussion over books, or a list of what will be done in the class. It can be a good tool for students to have a website just for their class where everything is easy accessible.
#12: This tool is a personal website/search engine. It is a part of Google and can be used to bookmark other websites, news, weather, videos, sports; you can also connect to Facebook, twitter and many others. Teachers and students can use this. Teachers can store websites and other things while students can keep track of news and websites as well along with a connected google search engine.
#14: We use the voicethreads site to comment and collaborate on reading materials. Each student sets up an account, and then each can comment on his/her reading book. These comments contribute to the annotated information for students who want to know about these books in the future.
#16: Ms. Fry will talk about Moodle and speak to its uses for us as a blended classroom approach to virtual classrooms.
#17: Facebook is a social networking site where you can share ideas with each other which you can use to post videos, messages, photos, and use applications. Though Facebook usually cant be accessed directly from the typical classroom, it can be used for a variety of educational purposes right outside of it. Facebook can be used to help students collaborate on homework projects or discuss lessons, which can provide many opportunities. This helps students get school help from other students when their teacher is not available.
#18: ElizabethOovoo is a video chat program which is similar to Skype where you have the option to video chat, as well as text chat with others who are in a different location. If you pay a fee, you can chat with up to 6 people. We use this program in our classroom to communicate with out teacher when we are out in schools. If we are teaching a lesson in the classroom, we will Oovoo back to our teacher so she can watch us teach our lessons, and capture photos or videos. A benefit to teaching is that teachers can bring speakers into the classroom over Oovoo if they are unable to come to the classroom. Also, if a student is sick and they are missing an important lesson, they could Oovoo in and be able to watch the lesson from home. We also practice presentations and critique ourselves using OOVOO.
#20: Delicious is an online database of thousands of links to websites and documents. It has everything from technology to music, to education. Its a great tool with so many different resources for teachers. Members of Delicious can bookmark sites and share them with other users. Which is perfect because as educators when we share we become better at what we do. I personally have used it to find lesson plans, substitute folder templates, motivational posters, tips, and tricks. Our class can access all of our teachers bookmarks through the Ning. Posts include educational games, articles, and teaching tools.
#22: Danielle, CassieIn class we use twitter to follow educators like Ron Clark and to update each other about what is happening in our classrooms. As future educators we feel it is important to keep up with common trends in the realm of education.
#23: HeatherWord press is a free blogging website where you can create your own blog and also comment on other blogs. We use it in our classroom to discuss what we are currently doing in our observations. We are required to blog 3 times a week. The benefit of using a Word Press is that it gives us a way to discuss our observations while we are away at different schools.
#25: Our students not only work with students/teachers in the classroom but acquire skills as presenters on the subject of teacher education!
#34: Bridget, ChasePrezi isnt a slideshow maker and it isnt powerpoint. Its a little of both. Last semester we created this Prezi as part of our final presentation. Many teachers create powerpoints to go with their lectures. Prezi expands a powerpoint allowing the student to group things together, and interact with the topic.Recent studies have proven how effective concept maps can be in learning. Prezi is an easy tool for teachers to use to show how concepts flow and work together.Carolyn and Ali will also briefly explain the content of their prezi and explain why they chose that format for their final presentation.
#38: Bridget, Courtney, Chase, and PaigeThrough the CAPS program a group of students and I have created a Summer Camp for middle school students. This is the first time this camp will be offered. The camp will expose the students to different types of activities that will be tied back to teaching. Among these activities we will include such as; skits on critical issues and a trip to a one-room school house to for an authentic look to the past.
#40: Courtney, Chase, Elizabeth, HeatherWix.com is a free website that allows you to create your own websites. This is where we created our online teaching portfolios, or eportfolios. You start out by choosing a template or starting from scratch. You can then edit anything including the background, text, and pictures. You can also link documents, websites, and videos. This is my eportfolio. It shows everything Ive done in CAPS such as my resume, my observations, and the professional development activities I have completed.
#42: This is our CAPS website where you can find student projects and further information about our strands and programs. The address is www.bvcaps.org. This presentation is posted at that location so that you can access it later.
