What is Product Approach in writing?
Product Approach in writing is where the
students are instructed to imitate a model
text that is discussed an analyzed in the
beginning of a writing session
Stages in Product Approach
1. Analysis of Model Text
2. Controlled Practice of Features
3. Organisation of Ideas
4. End Result
Analysis of Model Text
 The model text is first read thouroughly
 Features of the texts is then highlighted
 Eg. Writing the sender's adress at the
beginning of an informal letter (right side)
Controlled Practice of Features
 The previous highlighted feature is
practiced
 Eg. The student will now write down their
address for their informal letter, according to
the model text
Organisation of Ideas
 The organisation of the ideas much more
important than the ideas, and as important
as the use of language.
End Result
 Student then choose similar writing task
that may use the learnt features
 Usage of skills, structure and vocabulary
taught to produce the writing product
