Godaddy has a sale for .com sites 0.99/year You might see it from google search If you go directly to site, you do not see But if you search google and click on their promotional ad, you can get 0.99/year for first year. 1and1.com also is giving cheaper domain names If you are in Canada, it might be, it actually is better to buy from Canadian providers, it will help you with exchange rate changes...

Does not matter for 0.99 but if the domain is 15$ If the hosting is say $35/month or $50/month Or for dedicated hosting >= $250/month (when I had dedicated last, it probably was like this) Right now, you are paying 1.4 times if you bought from US providers and was priced in US$ - anyway..come back to purchasing a domain name

- 7. Well, the domain got bought... Let me point it to a hosting...i.e. Create a dummy hosting... THE HOSTING IS in a different place than the domain So I have to change DNS info for the domain.. The hosting is not working yet Need to wait a bit say 4 hours then it will point to the new hosting...then I have to install and configure the blog...
