Question 2How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Here is my front cover. As you can see my magazine represents young white females. My main sell model is quite feminine and very much a stereotypical girl that others look up to, I have also made her stare directly at the camera, I did this as I wanted the audience to feel like she was looking at them. She is attractive and slim this could represent others like her. However, she challenges the conventions of a very girly girl by wearing trousers and a hat. Also with my cover line, I have used quite a hard masculine font as this also challenges the conventions of a girly feminine girl. The colour scheme I have used is also quite ungirly and so this is another way it could challenge the typical female ideology. On the other side of my magazine I have other images. One below of a girl who looks quite the opposite of my main sell model. This could represent other social groups also. Above I have a male pulling a face, by doing this he is living up to the typical male stereotype of being silly and immature.
This is my contents page. I have included 3 images this time. In the middle I have the same model as my main sell. I have not sexualised her, but made her look quite graceful. Also I have made it a long shot so the reader focuses more on the background than the model. This could represent social groups that are much more sophisticated and instead of having images that show a lot of flesh, they are more intrigued by the surroundings. I also added two other pictures, this way the contents page would have a group of varied people. The male at the top of the screen, from his clothing looks quite rocky, the male dominant ideology is being silly, and messing around and I believe I have made this come across in the pictures. The girl at the bottom is challenging conventions as she is wearing pearls and denim, pearls tend to be associated with high class people and denim not, by putting the two together she challenges the norm, however it could also bring up the fact that women like to dress up and it is following the dominant ideology.
This is my double page spread. The images I have included here are of my main sell model. Again, I have not sexualised her, this would prove that people that read my magazine would not be interested in how the artist looks, but how they sound. By positioning my model in the trees and around nature it connotes that beauty is natural. The way my model is dressed is sort of folky, as she is wearing a hat and a scarf, also as she is described as a Songstress this proves that she writes her own lyrics, also in the interview it states that she owns a guitar, as many folk artists do, so this could represent young people who are interested in folk. This challenges typical female ideology as she is a strong independent artist how is able to write her own songs.
