What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?

 The Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera
 (Single lens reflex) which allows light to travel though the
lens and reflect on a mirror to a viewfinder or imaging sensor.
 The camera boasts a 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor capable
of noise immunity and low power consumption.
 The aperture is the hole at the front of the lens through which
light enters. Smaller aperture sizes result in an increased
depth of filed. When an image is take, thin blades called
diaphragm stop the passage of light except for that travelling
through the aperture.

 In the school studio, we used Hemisphere 300
strobe lights which produce regular flashes of light.
They were set to trigger in sync using a horseshoe
trigger attached to the camera at 1/300th of a second.
The camera shutter speed was set manually to
match the light and ensure adequate exposure.
 Soft boxes were also used to diffuse the amount of
light produced by the strobe lights. These are
encased in aluminium foil or aluminzed fabric surface
to reflect the light through the diffusing material and
create a soft and rounded exposure.
 A backdrop was illuminated with two additional
strobe lights for a highly exposed white background
to the image.

 The computer used was an iMac, an all in one
designed and built by Apple Inc. The first
generation, the iMac G3 was released in 1998 with
a PowerPC Processor encased in a plastic case
with a CRT monitor.
 The school model has aluminium casing with a 20”
LSD screen. Other features include: 2GHz core 2
duo processor: for a quick and effortless workflow.
8GB memory: Data is accessed randomly to allow
the computer to perform tasks at a consistent
speed. NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics Accelerate
processing of graphic editing programs such as
Photoshop and InDesign.
 School computers suite was connected to an
Xserve server. These are rack unit computers
designed by Apple Inc. These are used for file, web
or high performance computing when using
clustering.

 The keyboard and mouse were used as an input device for
all the work used on the iMac. Shortcuts on the keyboard
enabled quick editing in Photoshop.
 An SD (Secure Digital) card stored the image data from the
camera and had to be used with a USB adapter to copy the
data onto the network account of the iMac.

 Adobe Photoshop creative suite 5 is a raster graphics editor
capable of editing and composing multiple layers, masks and
several colour models including RGB and CMYK.
 Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing package used for
creating articles, books and newspapers. Unlike Photoshop,
this software allows more editing with the text itself rather
than graphics.

 www.WordPress.com Is a web-hosting platform for
creating a personal blog or website for your
business.
 Creating my media studies blog in Wordpress
enabled me to show the development of my product,
from research and planning to improvements.
 Wordpress also includes the function to embed
videos and presentations, as well as hyperlinks e.g.
Prezi.
 �ݺ�ߣshare, owned by LinkedIn, can be used in
conjunction with Wordpress to view PowerPoint
presentations live on the web without having to
download a separate file.
 PowerPoint is a presentational program based on
creating slide shows. Microsoft offer this as part of
their Office suite.
 Multiple slides can be created with text, images and
hyperlinks. Different layouts are also used for section
headers and multiple content.
 A vast array of designs are available to personalise a
presentation.
