Repealing the Federal Excise Tax (FET) on heavy-duty trucks would encourage the purchase of newer, cleaner, and safer trucks. Over 50% of trucks on the road are at least 10 years old, and repealing the 12% FET would help modernize America's aging truck fleet. FET repeal would benefit domestic manufacturing and the 1.3 million American jobs related to class 8 truck and trailer production. Removing this outdated tax from the 1917 era would help replace older polluting trucks and boost the economy.
