- 2. About Me My name is Michelle Rae Spilde. I have been working since the age of 13. To me work comes before any sorts of play. To live well you have to work hard. I attend Mankato State University and am going to be getting my degree in social work, phycology and minoring in corrections. I am eager to learn and eager to start my life.

- 4. My First Job on the horse ranch I grew up on a farm and had my first job at the age of 13 working on a horse ranch. Cleaning stalls, caring for horses, painting the barn are all things that I did. It introduced me to what hard work is like and after a hard day the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
- 5. Caring for the little ones. At the age of 14 I started babysitting 3 young girls. I was pretty much a live in babysitter. Their ages were 2, 4, and 6. I would say this was my favorite job. I learned a lot from having this job. The girls were African American so I learned a lot about their culture, the differences in their family compared to mine, and how to care for their hair. (a lot harder than it seems) I also learned about racism while having this job. Being a white girl with three black little ones I would get stares from others while taking them out and this job really helped me realize you are going to have people be rude to you, judge you no matter what job you are in but the thing you need to be focused on is your happiness and your accomplishments. I watched the little ones until I was 17 when I got the job I am in today.
- 6. Perkins This is the job that broke me out of my shell. I was hired a week after my 16 birthday as a host. I was told I had to host for 6 months and I could be moved to a server after I paid my dues and proved I had what it took to be a server. Within a month they moved me up to serving and this is the job I have had since then. This job gave my opportunity's that I would not have gotten without it. For one being able to buy my own car at the age of 16 from a dealership. And affording a one bedroom apartment at the age of 19without taking out loans or having the help from parents. Like I have mentioned previously hard work really pays off and hard work is what I am dedicated to for the rest of my life.
- 7. What I want to do with my work experience and my degrees to do. I have grown I want to do the job most do not want up beginning my career as a hard worker with the outdoors and there created my sense of hard work pays off. As a social worker you never know when your work is going to be done and you could be working 80 hour work weeks if your case load calls for it. Working as a babysitter introduced me to the love of children and their well being. They truly are the most innocent yet the most abused, this is why I want to work with children being abused and work with child protective services. Lastly working as a waitress for many years has opened my eyes to how it feels to be a leader, the love of caring and being someone that helps others and getting others the things they need. Also the joy of making those who are not happy, smile for the first time that day.
