Manufacturing Innovation Institute
June 21, 2016
The Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute brings over $140 million in public-private investment to
develop new technology solutions for use in advanced manufacturing.
Savigent Software (www.savigent.com) announced today that as a member of the Smart
Manufacturing Leadership Coalition (SMLC), the company has been named as an industry partner in
the new Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute. On Monday, June 20, 2016 President
Obama announced that SMLC will lead the new Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute, in
partnership with the Department of Energy. This coalition brings together a consortium of
organizations from across industry, academia, government and non-profits trade groups to spur
advances in Smart Manufacturing technology and digital process controls that can radically improve
the efficiency of U.S. advanced manufacturing.
The Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute will focus on innovations that can dramatically reduce
energy expenses in advanced manufacturing, strengthening the manufacturing sector and positioning
the United States to lead the manufacturing of tomorrow, helping sustain the resurgence of U.S.
manufacturing currently underway. The Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition will launch the
Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute with a focus on accelerating the development and adoption
of advanced sensors, data analytics and controls in manufacturing, and using Smart Manufacturing
software to reach new levels of efficiency and optimization of operations.
“We at Savigent Software are proud to be on the SMLC team as we embark on this new mission,”
said Mark Besser, vice-president of services for Savigent Software. “As a partner in the new Smart
Manufacturing Innovation Institute, we will provide our leading technology and expertise to tackle
industry problems and develop innovative solutions to fulfil the mission of the Institute.”
As a provider of event-driven Smart Manufacturing software, Savigent Software is a key partner for
SMLC and is part of the core technology offering the coalition will leverage to build these new
