This tradition of gathering around the fire in winter evenings to socialize and knit until feeling cold and sleepy is now considered extinct. From Christmas to Epiphany, people would gather and sing from door to door to celebrate Jesus' birth and convey the message through song, but also to receive food and drink from wealthy farmers as they were poor and enjoyed not only spreading the message but getting sustenance. They would sing to receive food until the end of January.
