Set designer for bus stop

- 2. Entire set ? This is how I have the diner envisioned in my head. It gives the feel of a small diner/resting stop in a little town in Kansas. It suits the time era of the 50’s because it is very basic and not modernized at all.
- 3. The diner ? In the play Bus Stop, the entire setting is in a street corner diner in Kansas City. It is said in the script to be a small ,little dingy establishment. So the picture to the left is what I had envisioned for the production.
- 4. Wall decorations ? The walls in the dinner are becoming soiled so to help cover them up I would like to add pretty girl posters . I chose the one on the left because it will help the actors better adapt to the 1950’s environment.
- 5. Wall decorations cont. ? I would also like to add some scenic calendars to cover up the walls. They would be in color however and show all different scenic places. By doing this I am helping the environment stay alive throughout the play.
- 6. Seating arrangements ? The play is set in the 50’s so for the seating arrangements I chose to do bar stools surrounding the corner. They will be a faded red because the building is worn down. I will only be putting 6 bar stools out to continue to mood of a small corner side diner.
- 7. Seating arrangements cont. ? Since the time era of this play is set in the 50’s I would like the tables and chair to look like the one in the picture. The color would be a faded red to match the bar stools.
- 8. Extra props ? In the play there is a franklin stove. I chose this type of stove to show the theme in props. The furniture does not get updated that often. This should really make the audience feel that they are in an old small town diner.
- 9. Realistic scenery ? Bus Stop served as a realistic play with realistic scenery. The diner in the play is an attempt to recreate an actual diner. In the diner I would like to top the counter tops with doughnuts, cakes, and other dainty food.
- 10. Locale and period ? This story takes place at a diner in a small town 30 miles outside of Kansas City. Paint this picture in your head, the time is 1955 and the diner is the typical old school establishment with a few pieces of modern equipment. The diner is worn down, almost to the point of being called dingy. The walls are losing the color and the light source come from two baldy shaded lights that hang from the ceiling. The bathroom is even outside, in the cold!
