Vehicle tracking is a way of monitoring the location, movements, status and behavior of a ve-

an electronic device (usually comprising a GSM GPRS modem or SMS sender) installed in each

14. DITEX EXTENDED COMMUNICATION
DiTex4ab, as a basic voice access system, was developed and thoroughly tested in some of the
most remote areas of South Africa. The DiTex256 and DiTexE1/Ethernet systems were the result
of the need for small capacity point-to-multipoint access systems, as well as a transport system
to compliment high-capacity, high-volume and high-costly systems.
DITEX4AB SYSTEM
The DiTex4ab system is a low-cost access system which allows for 4 x voice ports and Ethernet
ports to be extended up to 100 km away from the local exchange.
The DiTex4ab can be utilized in a point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configuration, depending
on the specific need in an area. The operating frequency is in the 350 MHz (FDD) band. This
operating frequency was chosen for the propagation characteristics in no-line-of-sight conditions.
Typically of deep rural areas are the low tele-density and vast distances from local exchanges to
